Ben Younger just might be a guy who all motorcyclists want to date their sister. He’s the director of the major-release films Boiler Room and Prime, he is an avid motorcyclist who rides at track days whenever possible, and he has recently finished a script for a film set “in a world” known as the Isle of Man TT races. Like any true biker, this native New Yorker’s garage is crowded with a stable of rides. Today’s list includes an Aprilia Mille, Kawasaki ZX-636, KTM Duke, BMW K1200 RS, and a Suzuki GSX1100G, plus some dirt bikes. “I always thought horsepower was the attraction for me but since I bought the Duke it’s become the bike I ride the most,” said Younger Younger, a motorcycle rider since he was 19 years old, said, “I’ve raced with WERA and CCS and although I love the intensity of going for trophies, I do mostly track days now with NESBA because of the lower risk. I have more control. Once in a race another rider hit my brake lever and I crashed. I can’t afford that in my life right now. I’ve raced on or ridden most of the tracks on the East Coast, Road Atlanta, Barber, Loudon, Pocono, VIR, and I raced at Vegas with WERA. I’m at a track day every chance I get.” Younger now plans on taking his love of bikes, and road racing, to the big screen. “I chose The Isle of Man for the setting of the film because of its intensity. I love MotoGP and while it may be the highest present form of racing, nothing can touch the stakes involved in the TT. If you screw up there you lose your life. Those are really compelling themes for a film. Plus, the riders aren’t the Rossis of the world, they’re roofers and plumbers. They’re regular guys who have an extremely irregular side to their lives. It’s the last, great, romantic race on earth. It’s a very cinematic event.” “There is something attractive about that danger factor. I’ve been to The Isle a few times and I’ve probably done about 40 laps of the course. I put a hole in my jeans there, I didn’t know I was going that fast. But don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely no plans to race there. My contribution will be this film.” Talking about his recent track-day adventure, Younger said, “My last track day was a two-day event a week ago at VIR. On the first day I was on my Duke. The Duke is so much fun, it’s like a bicycle. I felt like a 14-year-old kid on a Schwinn. I couldn’t believe the performance of the Pirelli Diablo IIIs on that bike. Thanks to those tires it was the best day I’ve had on a bike in my entire life. I was riding a single with about 65 horsepower yet I was having so much fun and I was railing around the track. It was incredible.
