The Conner Blevins/Danny Kelsey team, brought home the win in the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) final Team 60 race of the season this past Saturday, July 27, 2013.

CMRA began its seventh round of the season running a 4-Hour Mini Endurance, Mini Sprints, Team 60 and the Solo 30 races on both the 2.9-mile long course and 1.8-mile short course of the Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas. Hot, humid weather with temperatures in the high 90’s to low 100’s with some cloud cover and a light breeze made for great track conditions and healthy grids.

The first race of the day on the 2.9-mile course was the Island Racing Services Solo 30 Expert and Novice races, with racers lining up to sprint for 30 minutes in one stint on one bike. Danny Kelsey won Solo 30 Heavyweight Expert with his Suzuki GSX-R1000, while Kevin Taylor took the win in Heavyweight Novice on his Honda CBR1000RR. Garet Tomlinson rode his Yamaha YZF-R6 to the win in Solo 30 Middleweight Expert, while Doug Frenchak took the win in Middleweight Novice on his Yamaha YZF-R6. Solo 30 Lightweight Expert had Jim Whitten for the win on his Ducati 1000SS, and John Byus won Lightweight Novice with a Suzuki SV650. Bill Syfan aced the Solo 30 Ultra Lightweight race on his Kawasaki 250R.

On the 1.8-mile short course, the Mini Sprint grids kicked off Saturday’s racing action with Road & Track Suspension Formula 4 and Texas Tornado Boot Camp Superstock E having 23 and 28 entries each. The next race of the day on the 2.9-mile course was the House of Paint Designs Team 60 race, with 18 teams on the grid. While spectators lined the hot pit wall, the LeMans-style start was employed again, and went off cleanly. The exciting action started with Conner Blevins riding for the Blevins/Kelsey team getting a commanding jump on the entire field taking the Le Mans start and getting a 5 second lead going into the first lap. Blevins then went on to turn the fastest lap of the race of 1:46.994 on Lap 20, cementing the lead in the overall and in Heavyweight. The Andy Galindo/Eric Williams team was running second overall and first in Middleweight, with a fastest lap of 1:48.358. The Pete Martins/John Orchard pairing pulled a 1:48.285, running third overall and second in Heavyweight. The race leaders kept it fast, and the entire race put on a great show, with the fastest laps all being within 5 seconds of the race leaders. When the checkers dropped, Blevins/Kelsey took the overall and Heavyweight win, with Galindo/Williams in second overall and first in Middleweight. Martins/Orchard took third overall and second in Heavyweight.

The 4-Hour Mini Endurance had a combined grid of 24 teams, and ran on the 1.8 mile short course with Formula 4 Endurance represented. The green flag dropped and the Desert Brats team of Rick Hogge and Brad Thomas took the lead, riding a Kawasaki 250R, with the RyderHard Racing team of Ken Ryder, Jay Newton, Shawn Diamond and Austin Gore, also on a Kawasaki 250R in second. Desert Brats Racing held onto the lead for the first two hours, running a fastest lap of 1:23.315. However, during hour three, RyderHard Racing smashed that time, running a fastest lap of 1:22.844 taking over the lead. RyderHard Racing again ran the fastest lap of the race during hour four, turning a 1:21.473, holding onto the lead and taking their first overall and Formula 4 Endurance win of the season, completing 168 laps when the checkers dropped at 6:45 pm. Desert Brats Racing finished second overall and second in Formula 4 Endurance, completing 167 laps, and the Green Machine team of Brandon Altmeyer, Jesse Davis, David Tiede, Ryan Andrews, and Alan Phillips also on a Kawasaki 250R, finished third overall and third in Formula 4, completing 166 laps.
