The donation by Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations of 100 leftover promotional displays highlighting the company’s involvement in the 2010 MotoGP World Championship has grossed $2500 for the Roadracing World Action Fund.

The idea came from Bridgestone Motorcycle/Kart consultant Brian Davenport, who thought unused promotional displays — which feature near-life-size images of MotoGP racers Loris Capirossi, Dani Pedrosa, Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner might have value to fans and could be sold with the proceeds going to the Roadracing World Action Fund.

Davenport was right. The 100 displays, priced at $25 each, were all snapped up within a few days of being put on sale online. A fixed-price auction/sale on eBay was used, with the Roadracing World Action Fund paying the eBay and PayPal fees and Bridgestone handling and paying for all of the shipping.

“On behalf of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, I am very pleased we were able to make this contribution to the Roadracing World Action Fund program,” said Bob Graham, Senior Manager for Motorcycle Products. “As a tire manufacturer with involvement in many high profile racing series, we are very aware of safety issues in both the motorcycle and the racing industries. The Roadracing World Action Fund program is a very worthy cause, and we are happy to assist.”

The Roadracing World Action Fund is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization which advocates and promotes the use of soft barriers to help prevent rider injuries at racetracks. For more information, go to ~http://actionfund.roadracingworld.com/~.
