Lovelock looking to extend title lead further This weekend sees the Eastern Airways British F1 Sidecar Championship visit the Brands Hatch GP circuit and although they didn’t get to stand on the top step of the podium at Knockhill last time out, a second and a third in the two races enabled Roger Lovelock/Rick Lawrence to extend their Championship lead to 45 points. The Farnborough driver has only been off the podium in two of the eight races held so far and with four victories, he’s been steadily increasing his advantage over the second placed pairing of Ben Holland/Lee Watson, something he’ll be looking to continue this weekend. Holland/Watson took four successive second place finishes at rounds two and three but could only manage fifth and sixth at Knockhill and there’ll need to start getting the better of Lovelock if they’re to maintain their title challenge. They’re also searching for their debut win in the series so now would be an ideal time. It was Tim Reeves/Ashley Hawes who took a double victory at Knockhill but with the Kent driver on World Championship duty this weekend, along with the likes of Ben/Tom Birchall and Jorg Steinhausen/Gregory Cluze, local hopes rest with Cliffe Woods driver Andy Peach who, with Charlie Richardson in the chair, will be looking for his best result of the season in front of his home crowd. Rochester’s Ian Guy will also have a great chance of scoring well on a circuit that has seen them excel on in the past whilst Meopham’s series organiser Roger Lovelock is again on the entry list. The form paring at the moment though are Scott Lawrie/James Neave. A first, second and third has allowed them to close to within four points of Holland/Watson and they took a race win at Snetterton in May so are certainly capable of doing the same here on the GP circuit. Victory at the recent Jock Taylor Trophy meeting further confirmed their form. The Buildbase BMW of Ben Bygrave/Paul Knapton appear to have their early season gremlins behind them and are now racking up consistent leaderboard finishes with Gary Horspole/Rob Biggs, Johan Reuterholt/Aki Aalto, Steve Kershaw/Rob Wilson, Mark Edwards/Lee Barrett, Sean Hegarty/Calum Lawson and Craig Chaplow/Darren Tritton just some of the other contenders challenging for honours this weekend. With a slightly different timetable to normal, the first race takes place at 16.50 on Friday afternoon and is to be held on the shorter Indy circuit over 15 laps whilst the second is scheduled to take place over 10 laps on the full GP circuit at 17.20 on Sunday afternoon.
