BRANDON PAASCH EXTENDS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD IN 2019 HEL PERFORMANCE BRITISH MOTOSTAR MOTO3 AT THRUXTON CIRCUIT

Brandon Paasch followed up his Race 1 finish with another second place in Race 2 to extend his lead in the 2019 HEL Performance British Motostar Moto3 Championship. It was close racing again at the front, as the long stretches at Thruxton created many opportunities for drafting and late passes in the lead group. A red flag on the second lap meant the race was shortened on the restart, so Brandon put his head down and kept to the team’s game plan to challenge for the win in the final laps. Two riders ran off on the last lap, creating a gap between the leader and Brandon that saw him cross the line just 0.158 seconds behind Asher Durham, who pulled the double win for the weekend and jumped into second spot in the championship. But Brandon was able to further increase his lead to 31 points, as he and the FPW Racing team get ready for the next round at Cadwell Park in two weeks.

“This was a great weekend for the FPW Racing team! Short of winning the races, I’m happy to pull a double spot on the podium and increase our lead in the championship. Race 2 was even more intense than Race 1 – there was a lot of close racing and hard passing each lap. When we got the restart announcement with the shortened race, I knew I had to get in the front right away. I was able to get behind Asher and stay with him, but when the two guys crashed out near the end, Asher gapped me a bit and I came up just short at the line. Congrats to him for the double win this weekend.

But I’m feeling better on the bike, as we did some geometry changes this week that helped me carry a bit more corner speed. I’m improving my entry speed too, so I have some work to do. But with Cadwell for our next race, I’m stoked to get back on top of the box, as it’s one of my favorite tracks in the series. Thanks to Adrian, Sarah, Dave and Andy for putting together a great bike for me to race, and thanks to my sponsors for helping us get there! (Brandon Paasch)

“That was a very good weekend for Brandon and the team. We knew there would be some local riders that have been racing here for years, but Brandon was able to run right with them the whole race. He wasn’t able to make a move in the final lap on Asher, but we got valuable points to increase our championship lead. We’re looking forward to Cadwell, as we have a few tweaks to do to the bike that should help Brandon run out front all weekend. Big thanks to the whole team and all our sponsors for their support.” (Adrian Mason, Team Owner)
