MCE BRITISH SUPERBIKES HEADS TO HIGH-SPEED SNETTERTON 300 FOR NORFOLK’S BIGGEST MOTORSPORT EVENT The brilliant MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship hits Norfolk this weekend (25/26/27 May) as the county gears up for its biggest motorsport event of the season. MCE BSB has already delivered some sensational racing this year as the opening six races of the season have produced six different winners from six different teams. The championship features new technical regulations for 2012 with expensive electronic aids such as traction control now banned. This has created an even bigger spectacle and a level playing field that has given new teams and riders the chance to shine. Defending champion Tommy Hill currently heads the standings for Swan Yamaha and he scored a podium at the 3 mile circuit last year. Just six points separate him from Australia’s Josh Brookes, whilst double champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne is also closing in on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki. You can’t discount other 2012 race winners including Ian Lowry and fan’s favourite Chris Walker, whilst former World Superbike sensation Noriyuki Haga will make his race debut at the circuit following an excellent maiden podium finish at Oulton Park. Hill said: “I am really looking forward to Snetterton. We are three rounds into the championship and everyone is starting to up their game, but so are we and we are ready. There are lots of passing opportunities at Snetterton – everyone will be riding hard and you can never count anyone out. We want podium finishes as we need to be scoring consistently to stay in the top six for the final three round Showdown.” Local contenders bidding for success at the Norfolk circuit include Cambridge’s Luke Mossey and Norwich racer Matt Layt in the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship, whilst Norwich based Jake Newstead lines up in the Metzeler National Superstock 600 class. Last year Snetterton was completely transformed following a multi-million pound investment from owners MSV. The creation of a new infield section lengthened the track to three miles and led to a number of new overtaking opportunities and thrilling racing, whilst a number of elevated spectator banks were constructed. A record crowd came to see the first MCE BSB event on the Snetterton 300 circuit, and another bumper attendance is expected this weekend, particularly given the forecast of warm, sunny weather. In addition to the MCE BSB races there will be racing from the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship, the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 and 600 Championships, the Monster Energy Motostar Championship, the one make Triumph Triple Challenge and Ducati 848 Challenge plus the entertaining spectacle of the Eastern Airways British Sidecars. Adult tickets for raceday (Sunday) cost £30 on the gate with children aged 12 and under free. The Snetterton 300 circuit is easily accessible via the A11 from London to Norwich.
