The winner of the Buell “Super TT Trick-Out” contest, which encouraged riders to create their own original artwork for Buell’s newest motorcycle, the Buell Lightning Super TT XB12STT, was announced on January 29. Hundreds of detailed and highly stylized entries were submitted, but only 10 finalists were chosen by Erik Buell. Then, through on-line voting by visitors to buell.com, the winner was chosen: Paul Oliver from Largo, Fla., and his design of the globe etched in stone. Oliver said his inspiration came from thinking about what the bike was made to do and where it would be ridden. By looking at his urban surroundings, Oliver created the stone-like look of the bike. The globe theme represents the “go anywhere” philosophy associated with motorcycle riding. When Erik Buell came across Oliver’s design, he saw the globe design and thought it was “the ultimate ride.” He thought the design was the perfect road map, but he also liked it because it reflects the fact that Buell is a true world bike. As the winner of the Super TT contest, Oliver, current owner of a 2000 Buell X1 Lightning Red Stripe limited edition and a 2001 Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 Custom, will receive a new Super TT decked out in the design he created. The Buell Lightning Super TT XB12STT features four inexpensive, easily removable and customizable body pieces: the flyscreen, airbox cover and two sidecovers. Stock, these pieces are pure white, creating a virtual blank canvas that riders can trick out in any way they see fit: stickers, spray paint, markers, custom paint, and more.
