The California State Championship road racing series licenses are now available. The cost is $70, and covers reciprocity for the racer’s “away” races on the Championship race weekend. Racers are also eligible to run in all the regular club races their motorcycle is legal for – in addition to the California State Championship classes. Racers with a California State Championship license holders are also eligible to win hosting club’s contingency, prizes, and cash awards offered that weekend. California State Championship licenses include a metal hard card license, racer listing on website, product discounts and support from the series sponsors, and a series T-shirt. The series consists of three rounds at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Infineon Raceway and Willow Springs International Raceway. Willow Springs Motorcycle Club, AFM and WERA West will each host a round of the championship series, in which Expert racers over 16 will compete for an Overall Championship and class championships. At each round, the host sanctioning body’s regulations will be in effect. The California State 4 hour Endurance Challenge is tentatively scheduled to run at the first round of the series at Buttonwillow, on Saturday April 23, from 1 pm to 5 pm. Another race being considered to run on that same Saturday from 12 pm to 1 pm is the California State Ninja 250 Two man Challenge. This 1 hour race will consist of 2 rider 1 motorcycle teams with one pit stop during a timed window to change riders and refuel. Due to severely inclement weather conditions in Georgia, the WERA offices have been closed all week. Finalized details and schedule for the weekend’s events will be announced shortly. “We’ve had 3 inches of ice on the ground, the whole city has been shut down since Monday,” says Evelyne Clark, President, WERA Motorcycle Roadracing, Inc. “We’re hoping to get back into the offices by Monday, January 17 to finalize the schedule and fees. The sidecars will not be attending this round, so there is a time slot available. We need to work everything out, but the Ninja endurance is an idea that we like.” “The 4 hour was a well received idea last year,” says Shandra Crawford, Organizer, California State Championship, “however, because of the radical mechanical differences between a Ninja 250 and a liter class race bike in horsepower and cornering speed, I had concerns about rider safety, so I did not have a 250 class in the 4 hour. This year I would like to provide a class for the 250 riders to do some endurance racing that they could enjoy doing, and since the bike differentials are still a factor, I would like to give them their own race.” Novice racers can purchase a $30 Novice Affiliate Membership which qualifies them for sponsorship support from the series sponsors. Information about sponsorship, membership, the specific class structures and links to each of the host club rulebooks can be found at www.CaStateChampionship.com .
