The penultimate round of the 2009 British Superbike Championship takes place at Silverstone in Northamptonshire this weekend. A string of 19 race wins and 10 podiums for the Airwaves Yamaha team has ensured its riders cannot be beaten to the series crown. Sitting at the top of the Championship standings on 434.5 points, Leon Camier needs to finish ahead of nearest rival and teammate James Ellison, to clinch the title this weekend. Ahead of Round 11 Leon commented, “I’m really looking forward to Silverstone. In terms of the races, it’s just business as usual. I know what I need to do; I’ll prepare as normal, keep myself busy and not really think about the Championship a whole lot. GSE Racing, Spidi, Feridax and Nigel Hill from Jewson are all here this weekend. Without their continued support, I definitely wouldn’t be in this position. A good couple of results should hopefully go some way to thank them.” A 2nd and a 4th last time out helped James to 335 Championship points. He will be looking to continue his strong run of results to keep hold of 2nd place in the standings. On the challenge ahead James said, “I think we’re going to see some close racing this weekend, so it’ll be important for us to be at the top of the timesheets from first Practice onwards. I’ve had a nightmare in qualifying recently, doing my fastest time in the second session rather than the third. It’ll be vital to get qualifying right at Silverstone. I’ll be pushing Leon as much as I can, but I can’t forget to keep an eye out for Stuart Easton who’ll be looking to snatch away 2nd in the standings.” Round 11 of the British Superbike Championship takes place at Silverstone on 25/26/27 September.
