Area 27 Motorsports Park teams up with Ken Hill for 2-day Motorcycle Academy

Oliver, BC – July 25, 2019 – On August 7th & 8th, Area 27 Motorsports Park will be host to one of the top motorcycle riding coaches in the U.S., Ken Hill, and his team of distinguished instructors for the first ever 2-day Motorcycle Academy, as part of Academy 27’s portfolio of courses. Not only is this the inaugural motorcycle riding course for Area 27, but this will be the first time Ken Hill has hosted a program in Canada.

The track where it will all take place: Area 27 Motorsports Park. This circuit has the unique distinction of being envisioned, designed, engineered, and constructed by professional racers. Designed by Jacques Villeneuve and Trevor Seibert to take advantage of the natural terrain, Area 27’s sixteen turns flow through elevation changes like a favourite country road. Straightaways are long enough to generate speed and to allow the rider time to assimilate the previous corner’s challenge. Great corners are defined by what comes before and what happens after them – Area 27 was built with this in mind. Predominantly a membership-based facility, this 2-day course is one of only a few ways to experience the track for yourself.

Ken has been the lead instructor at the Freddie Spencer Riding School, Yamaha Champions Riding School, and is currently based with RiCKdiculous Racing. His racing accomplishments include track records, class championships, and a top 10 in AMA Superbike competition at age 41. In addition to racing & teaching, Ken has been a test rider for Roadracing World and Cycle World magazines.

The Area 27 – Ken Hill Motorcycle Academy curriculum is based on the techniques and habits of what the best riders in the world are utilizing to ride at the highest level of the sport. The curriculum utilizes Ken Hill’s fundamentals from his “Order of the Sport”, but at a degree of application that can be individually understood and applied to one’s own riding.

The school is set in a racetrack environment where students will be taken through an intensive curriculum that works on all aspects of the fundamentals of the sport, with clear objectives for each topic. The classroom time is deliberately focused, followed up by plenty of on track sessions led by Ken and his world-class instructor team. The curriculum balances all aspects of the rider from technique, physical, and mental capabilities with emphasis on riding. Each rider will have their own video lapping and review session each day, where the instructors work with the individual rider on what is holding them back for their next steps.

Whether you’ve done a hundred track days or are getting out there for your first time, riders of all levels are encouraged to register! This is a school, not a competition event and riders will be grouped based on experience. The instructors’ goal is to ride with the students and have them leave with a clearer understanding of the fundamentals of the sport in order to build a pathway to their riding goals.

The course fee includes two full track days of instruction, use of the state-of-the art clubhouse for theory, debrief, lunch and refreshments, a group dinner social at a local restaurant after the first track day, and branded swag. Riders will be required to bring their own safety equipment, including a full face motorcycle helmet rated SnellM/DOT/ECE approved 2010 or newer helmet, leather riding suit with armor in shoulders, elbows, forearms, knees and shins, hard shell back protector, leather motorcycle riding gloves, and racing style leather motorcycle boots that fully cover ankles. It is recommended that the rider have their own mechanically sound bike with good tires capable of riding lots of laps for two days. There will be limited bike rentals available, pre-course reservation is required.
