Torin Collins, riding with Team MTA, finished 21st after a progressing from his starting position of 32nd on the grid at Round 3 of the FIM CEV Repsol Hawkers European Talent Cup, held June 12-13 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Collins, age 15, was one of 38 riders who qualified for the race out of 51 entrants in the single-make class competing on Honda NSF250Rs despite it being his first time at this track and having recently been given the all clear to start training again. Torin fractured his foot as a result of a nasty highside crash in Race 2 at Valencia (Round 2).
The Canadian had a good start gaining five positions but fell back after some jostling in the first few corners. He then worked on making his way through the group of five he was in and put his head down to catch the next group, two seconds ahead. He was able to do that and work his way through that group but ran out of laps to catch the next group of riders.
Looking forward, Torin will be travelling to Portugal for Round 4 at Autodromo do Algarve, a track he raced at last year in the ETC.
“The race weekend was a tough one,” said Collins. “I had never ridden this track before, so I had to learn the track. In the race I was chasing the group ahead that were battling for P10. Leaving Barcelona I have learnt a lot and hope for a top 15-finish soon.”
