CSBK series invades Nova Scotia this weekend!

SHUBENACADIE, NS – Canada’s top motorcycle road racers are headed to the east coast this weekend for round 4 of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship, held July 14-16 at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, NS. Presented by Honda Canada, round 4 is a special double header weekend that will feature two full races for the Pro Superbike Feature and Pro Sport Bike classes.

The Superbike class parade is headed by defending champion Jordan Szoke (Lynden, ON), whose performance this year on the Mopar Express Lane/BMW/Motovan S1000RR has included two wins and three poles in three races. Szoke has won the last two races at AMP and is fresh off a commanding performance in round 3 at Autodrome St-Eustache in Quebec.

33 points behind Szoke is Bodhi Edie (Warman, SK), the only racer other than Szoke to have won a Canadian Superbike National race since 2014. Edie scored a red-flagged round 2 victory at Grand Bend Motorplex in June. The 21-year-old missed last year’s AMP race after a massive crash at the previous round in Quebec, and will look to make the most of the double-points weekend on his Z1/Parts Canada Yamaha YZF-R1.

Just five points back of Edie sits Kenny Riedmann (Belfountain, ON) and his Sturgess Cycle/Liqui Moly Kawasaki ZX-10RR. The 25-year-old led most of last year’s Sunday Superbike race at AMP and was a winner in Pro Sport Bike. BMW riders Ben Young (2016 Brooklin Cycle Pro Rookie of the Year, from Collingwood, ON) and Samuel Trepanier (second-year Pro from St-Isadore, QC) make up the rest of the top five.

Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike has been the class to watch this year, with anxious battles up front translating into excitement for spectators and viewers watching the action on TSN or CSBK.ca. Tomas Casas (Peterborough, ON) leads the points by virtue of two wins in the first three races this year on his Peterborough Cycle/Parts Canada Yamaha YZF-R6, while fellow youngster Mitch Card (Ripley, ON, Yamaha), veteran Frank Trombino (Etobicoke, ON, Honda) and Kristopher Garvie (Caledon, ON, Kawasaki) have been dicing for podium spots all season.

Magneti Marelli Amateur Superbike racers Ernest Bernhard (Ste-Brigide, QC) and Samuel Desmarais (Lasalle, QC) head to AMP deadlocked in a tie for first, while Jean-Francois Aubin (St-Jerome, QC) has a 27-point lead over Desmarais in Shoei Helmets Amateur Sport Bike. National rookie Xavier Paradis (Shannon, QC) has built up a healthy lead atop the standings in the Kawasaki Ninja 300 Race Series after four wins in six races this year.

Regional support classes from the Society of Atlantic Roadracing League will also be included in the program, with the Lightweight Sport Bike race expected to attract a strong grid of smaller displacement sport machines.

Going into the CSBK National Series’ lone stop on the east coast, Kawasaki-mounted Tim Toldnes (London, ON) leads the Brooklin Cycle Racing Pro Rookie of the Year points standings, with former Flat Track Canada champion Doug “Fresh” Lawrence (Mississauga, ON) just three points back on his Suzuki.

The Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship round 4, presented by Honda Canada, kicks off this Thursday evening with the traditional pre-race event at Pro Cycle in Dartmouth, NS that includes a meet & greet with the racers, sport bike show ‘n shine, plus a chance to win CSBK weekend passes and a Shoei helmet. The event runs from 6-9 p.m.

On-track action at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, NS begins with practice and qualifying on Friday, with racing scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. For tickets, visit www.procycleonline.com or www.csbk.ca.
