HAMILTON ON, CANADA September 9, 2008 – RMP Racing’s 13 year-old development rider Steven Nickerson is honored to announce that he has been selected from over 400 applicants to compete for one of roughly 25 spots in the 2009 Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup (http://us.redbullrookiescup.com/ ). Nickerson competes in the Canadian Regional R.A.C.E. Super Series in the Amateur 125GP Class, were he currently sits first overall in Championship points, and the CAN-AM (USGPRU) series. The Red Bull Rookies Cup program was designed to create a level playing field to allow the best and the brightest riders to rise to the top, while ensuring young talent is not overlooked due to a lack of monetary support. This series is based on the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Europe. The U.S. series focuses on seeking out top North, Central and South American, as well as Caribbean, racing talent. In 2007 Nickerson had also applied for this prestigious opportunity. Twelve years old at the time, Nickerson had just begun his road racing career after earning several Championships racing dirt track and Pocket Bikes. The young Canadian racer found the 2008 try out an amazing experience however just missed making the final cut. Nickerson will travel to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama on the weekend of October 3rd-5th to compete in the on-track selection event for the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup. If selected, Nickerson will compete with over 20 other riders in a 9 race series in 2009 aboard identical 125cc motorcycles. “Steven has really matured as a racer over the past year. His skill and dedication will certainly make an impression on the selection panel” said RMP Racing’s team owner and mentor, Ross Millson. “This is a huge opportunity for him and all the well deserving selectees.”
