More, from a press release issued by Jason Duplantis Racing:
Jason Duplantis Racing finishes in the Top Ten at the first race weekend of 2014.
Pooler, GA – Jason Duplantis achieve a best result of 6th place in the Championship Cup Series GTU race at Roebling Road this weekend. Despite some initial set-up issues at the first event of the year, Duplantis ran competitive lap times and was in contention for a podium finish in several races.
Roebling Road Raceway is Jason’s home track and hopes were high for podium finishes despite extremely tough competition from several AMA Pro riders attending before the Daytona weekend on March 13th – 15th. Jason was fast from the first practice and was always in the top five in practice times.
The first race was the 25 minute GTU race. Although Jason had done some pre-season testing at Jennings, he had not done a practice start. The GTU race was the first time Jason had an opportunity to launch the bike in its latest configuration. The bike bogged at the start and Jason was pushed back to 18th going into turn one. Duplantis put on his “hard hat” and went to work, passing 12 riders to finish 6th.
The next race of the weekend was the Middle Weight GP event. The day had run long for CCS and the MWGP race was held at almost 6 pm in near dark conditions. Jason assumed that the bad launch was his fault and was determined to make up for it at the start of the MWGP race. This determination turned into over exuberance and Jason jumped the start, and thus acquired a rider through penalty. Jason knew he threw away a good result, but wanted to run with the leaders until the end. Jason ran in the middle of the lead pack throughout the entire race and pulled in on the last lap to serve his penalty. The ride through put him 14th in the end. You can’t win the race on the first lap, but you sure can lose it on the first lap. Lesson learned. Duplantis went to work trying to solve the launch issue and prepare for the next day.
The last race of the weekend and last race of the day on Sunday was the Middle Weight Superbike race. Jason waited all day to test the new launch settings only to find that the new setting was worse. The bike bogged at the start and Jason was pushed back to outside the top 20 going into turn one. The bike was running worse so in the interest of safety for himself and his fellow competitors, Duplantis pulled in to fight another day.
Jason Duplantis – “This was not the results we were looking for this weekend, but we came away with a lot of positives. We were as fast as anybody out there this weekend. We proved that we can run upfront and challenge some of the fastest experts in the country. We will be taking the bike to KWS Motorsports and we know that they will get us sorted out for the event next weekend with WERA. I want to thank Millennium Technologies, KWS Motorsports, Velocity Powersports, Ballistic Performance Components, my wife Emily, and all of the sponsors for their support. I promise I will turn the speed we showed into results next weekend!”
