MARTIN CARDENAS WINS BOTH SUPERSPORT RACES IN COLOMBIA M4 Suzuki rider Martin Cardenas won both Supersport races at Tocancipa Speedway in Colombia Sunday. Cardenas qualified fourth-fastest running Dunlop AMA-spec tires for practice, and started both races chasing Santiago Villa, who started on pole. Villa made two great starts and led both races. In the first one Villa had some problems with front grip, and had a fight with Camilo Correa for the second spot, but Villa at the end got second place while Cardenas had a lonely ride out front to the finish line. In race two, Villa had an early lead and made some time, but Cardenas chased down the Roadracingworld.com rider and on lap 12 of 15, Cardenas passed Villa him to win again. LTD Racing’s Tomas Puerta had a great start in both races, but crashed while fighting for fourth place with Carlos Macias. Puerta did start in the second race and finished fifth. Villa said, “I had some problems in race one with my tires, I led for a while, but Martin passed me and I had nothing for him. In race two I led almost all the race, I knew Martin was coming, I didn’t had to look back! I pushed very hard, but it wasn’t enough, he is the man! I hope one day I can give him some trouble.” TOP 15 Overall 1. MARTIN CARDENAS (SUZUKI) 2. SANTIAGO VILLA (SUZUKI) 3. CAMILO CORREA (HONDA) 4. ALEX RODRIGUEZ (KAWASAKI) 5. JOSE GUEVARA (YAMAHA) 6. ANDRES VALERO (HONDA) CRASH RACE ONE More, from an earlier press release issued by Santiago Villa Racing: AMA RACERS VILLA, CARDENAS AND PUERTA RACING IN COLOMBIA (VILLA ON POLE) Santiago Villa won pole position at the Colombian Circuit of Tocancipa Speedway. The Roadracingworld.com rider topped the order on a Suzuki fielded by team Moto Xtreme, Addict By Bosi. M4 Suzuki rider Martin Cardenas qualified in fourth place, but was the only rider running spec tires; the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike points leader was traning all day and qualified with the same set of spec tires just to get more miles on the official spec tire of the AMA, while all the other riders were on 211 Dunlops 211. AMA SuperSport rider Tomas Puerta of LTD Racing qualified fifth. “It’s great to be on top again on my home track,” said Villa, AMA #32. “We had some problems with front grip, but we made pole and that’s important, but still, I know this is just a cloud of smoke. Martin was on SPEC tires and those tires are 1.5 to 2.0 seconds slower, tomorrow the story is going to be different, when he is on the 211 tires. But I will do my best to make a good race, and learn from the pro, it’s just insane to think that he will not be on the fight, you can give him a scooter and he will make your life miserable! So I will do my best and hope to put my Suzuki GSX-R600 on the podium and have a great battle with my friend. Also it’s great to do a normal racing start from the grid and not that rolling start we do in the AMA, that will make the race more interesting!” TOP 15 Qualifying 1.
