Championship Cup Series (CCS) Announces
Cancellation of November 1-2 Race at Buttonwillow

For Immediate Release:

AURORA, IL. – Clear Channel Entertainment’s motor sports division announced today the cancellation of the November 1-2 event weekend at Buttonwillow Raceway near Burbank (sic), California. The cancellation includes the scheduled Lockhart-Phillips USA Sport Rider Day on Saturday (Nov 1), as well as the Championship Cup Series races scheduled for Sunday (Nov 2).

This was to be the ninth event (out of ten) for both the CCS Pacific and CCS Southwest Regions. As of this announcement, the date has not been rescheduled for 2003. Also, as of this announcement, the final round of racing for the CCS Pacific Region at the Streets of Willow in Rosamond California on November 29-30, as well as the final round of racing for the CCS Southwest Region at Firebird in Chandler Arizona on November 15-16 are scheduled to take place as originally planned.

The cancellation of this weekend’s event at Buttonwillow is due to the tragic fires that have overcome the Pacific Region in recent weeks. Allowing the families and authorities the opportunity to handle the situation at hand, and not complicate issues for them, prompted CCS and Clear Channel Ent. – Motorsports’ decision to cancel the event.

Kevin Elliott, Director of Road Race properties for Clear Channel stated that, ” The events in California are tragic, and we don’t need to complicate the issues there. We look forward to ending a successful 20th Anniversary season at Streets of Willow in Rosamond, California, (located near Edwards AFB), November 29-30, where the CCS opener for the Pacific Region kicked off in February. With over $11 million worth of contingency awards up for grabs in 2003, this was a stellar season for CCS and our racers.”
