Stokes Takes Shootout Victory at Jennings CCS Florida / USGPRU at Jennings GP April 6, 2008 Brian Stokes made a triumphant return to Jennings GP on a rainy weekend that saw CCS Florida and USGPRU join forces at the Florida track. Saturday practice sessions were drenched by afternoon thunderstorms and put a damper on qualifying for the two USGPRU races scheduled for Sunday. Qualifying was rescheduled for Sunday morning on a dry track, but by the time racing got underway, the rain had moved back in and the opening races ran on a wet track. First up was the USGPRU 125cc Grand Prix race. Patrick Jacobsen nabbed that victory after taking the lead from early leader Nobi Iso. Adam Roberts took victory in the 250cc Grand Prix race, with the rain in full force on a drenched track. By the end of the day the track had dried out and Brian Stokes won the Unlimited Grand Prix race with his ZX-10R. Stokes was gridded on row four and had to work his way through traffic before taking over the lead. Local favorite Greg Melka had nailed the holeshot and led the first lap around the track, only to take himself out of the lead at the end of the lap one when he ran wide in Turn 13 and off into the dirt. Darren Luck was now in first with Michael Rouleau close behind. By lap three, Stokes was in second place and set his sights on the lead. He used the Kawasaki’s horsepower down the back straight in the next lap to make his passing move and nab the top spot. With just two laps to go, Stokes held on to his lead to the checkered flag. Stokes also won the Unlimited Supersport race. He finished second in Middleweight Supersport and fifth in Middleweight Superbike. Darren Luck was the biggest expert winner of the weekend, taking home three first-place trophies, in the GTO, Heavyweight Supersport, and Heavyweight Superbike classes, and also finished second in the GTU race and third in Middleweight Superbike race. UNLIMITED GRAND PRIX RESULTS: 1. Brian Stokes (Kaw ZX-10R); 2. Darren Luck (Suz GSX-R600); 3. Michael Rouleau (Suz GSX-R1000); 4. Joshua Hayes (Hon CBR600RR); 5. Robert Dougherty (Suz GSX-R750); 6. Shane Narbonne (Suz GSX-R1000); 7. Alexander Miniaci (Suz GSX-R600); 8. Bradley Graham (Yam YZF-R6); 9. Jeremy Stepper (Suz GSX-R1000); 10. Fernando Ferreyra (Ducati 848).
