Southeast and Atlantic Championship Cup Series featuring AMA Sanctioned ASRA Team Challenge Presented by Michelin Tire

Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw, SC

April 8-9, 2017

Frankie Babuska, Jr., won both rounds of the Expert Unlimited Grand Prix class at Carolina Motorsports Park last weekend during the CCS Twin Sprints event for the Southeast and Atlantic regions. He nailed the holeshots in both races on his Babuska Racing Yamaha YZF-R1, and was able to fend off the competition, finishing ahead of some tough competitors on Saturday and Sunday.

Babuska was the winningest Expert of the weekend with seven first-place finishes over the two-day event, running undefeated. He started the first day with victories in the GTO, Unlimited Superbike, Unlimited Grand Prix, and Unlimited Supersport races after taking early leads and running ahead of the pack in all of his classes. He followed up on day two with wins again in the Unlimited Supersport, Unlimited Grand Prix, and Unlimited Superbike races, also getting great starts and with some challenge, but running out front and continuing to dominate in all of his classes. Babuska also ran undefeated at the event last season.

In the Amateur ranks, Nate Redding was the winningest racer of the weekend with eight first place finishes, and also running undefeated. Nate was out front early in his races on Saturday, taking first place in the GTU, Middleweight Superbike, Rookies Cup GTO, Middleweight Supersport, and Heavyweight Supersport classes. On Sunday, he won the Heavyweight Supersport, Middleweight Supersport, and Middleweight Superbike classes.

Ray Hofman dominated the smaller displacement classes with six total victories. He won the GT 300, Thunderbike, 300 Thunderbike, Moto 3, and Lightweight Superbike races on Saturday. Sunday, he was back out front for his final victory in Moto 3 again.

Jonathan Patti won both rounds of the Amateur Unlimited Grand Prix races and took home a total of five first place trophies with additional wins in the Unlimited Superbike race on Saturday, and Unlimited Supersport and Unlimited Superbike on Sunday.

Fresh off his Daytona 200 appeal victory, Cory West was a man on a mission during the AMA Sanctioned ASRA Team Challenge Presented by Michelin Tire season-opener. After a rough start and early red flag, West was out front on his TSE Racing Yamaha YZF-R6, to lead the way for the majority of the 49 completed laps in the two-hour race, and finished ahead of all 22 teams as the overall race winner and GTU class victor. Lloyd Bayley won the GTO class on his LB Sports Suzuki GSX-R1000, also completing 49 laps, and the Fairfax Cycles Racing team of Jason Zelibor and Mark Miller, Jr. won the GT Lights class on their Suzuki SV650, completing 47 laps.

The CCS Atlantic region will compete next at New Jersey Motorsports Park April 29-30th, in a double points event. The CCS Southeast region will meet again June 10-11th, at Virginia International raceway for a regional event with Mid-Atlantic region. And, the next ASRA Team Challenge event is scheduled for April 29-30th, at Autobahn CC.
