Celtic Racing team owner Barry Gilsenan says that he didn’t have a deal with Brett McCormick before last weekend’s AMA Pro National at Auto Club Speedway, but that was before he saw the young Canadian star ride. Reached by phone Wednesday night after Michael Jordan Motorsports announced that McCormick could replace injured Aaron Yates after testing at Infineon Raceway Thursday and Friday, Gilsenan said, “I didn’t have a contract with Brett McCormick. After seeing him ride, I was interested in putting a deal together for the rest of the year. “After the race the Jordan folks approached me and said they wanted to test with McCormick,” said Gilsenan. “They’ve helped us with the technical stuff, and in this situation, I told them that I’m glad I was able to help. What remains to be seen is how many races it might be for and what happens after that. All is to be discussed. “I was happy to see the kid get the opportunity,” Gilsenan added. “It shows that we can offer a guy an opportunity to show his stuff so the bigger teams can see what he’s made of.”
