The sportbike community came together for a wonderful effort in support of our military. On Friday August 13, Patriot Racing, Cornerspeed and VIR held the inaugural Race to Recovery Trackday to Benefit Wounded Veterans. The weather was beautiful and the support shown by many racers in the AMA Pro Roadracing paddock was exceptional. In this, our first effort in conducting such a large fund-raising event, $6850.00 was raised to support the Fisher House Foundation, Homes for Our Troops and Patriot Racing’s “Race to Recovery” program. Trackday participants enjoyed a well-organized and run day on the picturesque VIR South course, courtesy of Cornerspeed. The entire day ran smoothly and the “Beginner” group of riders enjoyed the outstanding training curriculum offered by Aaron Stevenson and the Cornerspeed staff. Former AMA Superbike Champion, Jamie James gave many brave souls the ride of their lives; piloting 2-up rides throughout the day. Meanwhile the bidding action was fast and furious in the silent auction with items donated by: Jamie James, Eric Bostrom, Full Spectrum Power, Orient Express, Chicken Hawk Racing, Joe Rocket, BG Products, The Online Paddock, Leo Vince, Motul, Lizzy Leather, Lithium Motorsports, Andrew Swenson Designs, and Chris Kruzel Graphics. AMA Pro racers took time out of their busy schedule to visit the Race to Recovery Trackday paddock as well. One and all enjoyed the opportunity to interact with some of the fastest racers in the AMA today. Josh Hayes, Jake Zemke, Melissa Paris, PJ Jacobsen, Huntley Nash, and Scott Carpenter each took the time to visit with us and to show support for our efforts to give back to our wounded veterans. Without the exceptional support and assistance from Cornerspeed and VIR, this event would not have been possible. Patriot Racing is incredibly grateful for the dedicated and enthusiastic help shown by the staff at VIR and Cornerspeed who made this event a reality. Patriot Racing is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to advocate for the long term needs of wounded veterans and military families through motorsports. Patriot Racing is an active fund-raiser for the Fisher House Foundation and Homes for Our Troops. The Race to Recovery program is Patriot Racing’s direct-support program through which groups of wounded veterans are hosted at select race events.
