Savannah, GA Following his Overall and GTO class Michelin Team Challenge victory last week at Road America, Eric Helmbach took his Chester Auto Repair BMW S1000RR to another Overall and GTO win Sunday July 11, 2010 at the 2.02-mile Roebling Road Raceway road course. Helmbach opened a half-second gap by turn four on lap one and by lap 11 the gap was nearly seven seconds over the Team Stiles Yamaha R6 ridden by Meghan Ryan, Scotty Ryan and Mark Stiles . The Motocorse Performance Bimota 1000 ridden by Kat Zimpel and Sean Dwyer was third overall early in the race. Motocorse pitted on lap 25 for fuel, handing their GT Lights lead and third overall position to Alex Shaw on his Grease Monkey SV650 entry. By lap 25 only Helmbach and the the Stiles team were on the lead lap. Helmbach pitted on lap 39 for his one and only stop for fuel. Stiles assumed the lead and had a 30-second gap on Helmbach after the stop. Stiles pitted a lap later handing the lead back to Helmbach. Within two laps Helmbach had a 39-second lead. With 20 laps to go Helmbach managed to extend his lead to one full lap. The Michelin event was scheduled for 75 laps with a 2.0-hour time limit was run in just 1 hour 37 minutes. The final order was Helmbach from Stiles from Shaw in the overall results. Helmbach topped GTO with Tim Ivanoff second. Stiles Racing took the GTU with Premier Racing’s R6 second and Rachel Sasse’s RNR Repsol Kawasaki 636 was third. Alex Shaw topped the GT Lights podium, Zimpel and Dwyer on the Motocorse entry were second and Jay Smith was third on his Buell XB12. The next Michelin Team Challenge sanctioned by ASRA will be Round 7 at Summit Point Raceway on August 29 where other teams challenge Helmbach’s recent domination in the most popular 2-Hour endurance race in the U.S .
