Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki’s Chris Ulrich introduced motorcycle road racing to representatives from two states and four different media outlets with rides on the back of his two-seat GSX-R1000 AMA Superstock racebike Thursday at VIRginia International Raceway, near Danville, Virginia. “That was fantastic!” said Scott Sacra, who was representing WTVR TV, the CBS network affiliate in Richmond, Virginia. Sacra was riding for a segment to be aired on an August 16 episode of “Virginia This Morning.” “There’s nothing like that in the world, nothing at all. He accelerates so fast coming off some of those turns the front wheel comes right off the ground, and coming up the front straightaway it was hard to keep my head down it’s so fast.” “It was awesome, totally awesome,” said Steve Hecox of Evince Magazine and Evince Racing, two lifestyle magazines based in Virginia. “We were [leaning] over a whole lot, and it seemed real, real fast. I’m not used to motorcycles, so it was a totally different feel out on the racetrack than in a car. I’ve done some [car] racing. I’ve gone that fast before, but never like that. This is totally different.” “Unbelievable!” said Zach Grandle, who works for www.speedtv.com. “That was probably one of the coolest things I’ve gotten to do since I’ve started working at SPEED Channel. I’ve done ridealongs in NASCAR, the IndyCar stuff, but this is by far the coolest ridealong experience I’ve had yet. It’s more intimate with the track, the open air, the shifting your weight and leaning in. You’re doing a lot of the work, not the machine doing all the work.” Asked if he was more of a four-wheel guy, Grandle said, “I was. I’ve liked watching the AMA stuff, but riding, being able to experience this is definitely a lot better. This is the way to go.” “It was awesome!” said Tonia Cornett, who is an on-air and on-net personality with 100.3 FM “The Buzzard” and www.buzzardrocks.com out of Greensboro, North Carolina. “It was fun, it was fun, it was fun. I was scared it wasn’t going to be fast enough. Whooo! It was totally awesome. I didn’t realize you guys went that fast. On TV it doesn’t seem like you’re going that fast, but when you’re out there you’re like holy sheeesh! Then he touched his knee down a couple of times. It was really cool.” Ulrich and his team have been giving media representatives rides on two-seat racebikes for several years as a way of educating and interesting them in motorcycle road racing.
