American Max Toth has been named Co-Champion of the 2022 CIV Aprilia RS 660 Cup.

At the season finale October 8-9 at Imola, Toth and title rival Francesco Mongiardo split the double-header round with Toth winning Race One and Mongiardo winning Race Two.

This left Toth and Mongiardo tied with 160 Championship points. It also left them tied with four wins and four second-place finishes each.

They had exactly the same points and race results throughout the season.

Initially, Mongiardo was awarded the Championship based upon him taking the most recent race win, but that decision has changed.

BK Corse, the organizer of the Aprilia RS 660 Cup, has issued a statement via social media stating Toth and Mongiardo will be Co-Champions for 2022.

“Having consulted the Race Directors, the Italian Motorcycle Federation, Aprilia Racing and all interested parties,” read a translation of the BK Corse statement, “it is with great pleasure that we communicate the unanimous decision to award the victory of the Aprilia RS 660 2022 Trophy ex aequo to both sporting and moral winners this season. Francesco Mongiardo and Maxwell Toth are equal winners of the Aprilia 2022 Trophy. This decision was made due to the exceptional result of the riders’ perfectly equal result and in compliance with the Regulations. We therefore congratulate both Champions and look forward to seeing them at EICMA 2022 for the official awards ceremony.”
