CMRA Honors Its 2017 Champions

The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) held its Annual Awards Banquet this past Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the Blaine Stone Lodge in Midlothian, Texas. With over 250 people in attendance, the evening was full of fun and surprises. Awards and congratulations were presented to all of our 2017 Sprint and Endurance Champions, Series and Class Sponsors as well as other special annual individual awards.

The evening began with the introduction of the 2018 Board of Directors: Sean Brown, Shandra Crawford, Danny Dominguez, Lindsey Leard, John Orchard, Ryan Rutkowski, and Harry Tomlinson. The 2017 Club Officers were also announced: John Orchard – President, Danny Dominguez – Vice President, Norm McDonald – Treasurer, Nancy Selleck – Secretary. Out-going Board Members, Allen Dye and Bill Syfan, were presented with thank you awards for their service to the club.

All CMRA weekend race staff and corner workers were recognized as well as retiring long-time staff members, Alan Etheredge and Barry, Roxana and Sebastian Nichols.

2018 #1 Plate: Daniel Adams rode his Century Trucks and Vans-backed Suzuki SV650 to the CMRA Overall Sprint Championship, bringing home the Number One Plate for 2017. Adams also grabbed four individual Expert Sprint Class Championships in Formula 2 Expert, D Superbike Expert, D Superstock Expert and LW Twins Expert. Brandon Cleland, CMRA 2017 #1 Plate holder, was on hand to present the #1 plate award.

The Rookie Expert Award went to Aaron Graham for earning the most overall points as a first-year Expert.

The Top Novice Award went to Tyler Raboin for earning the most overall Novice points and graduating to Expert for 2018.

The Overall Championship Endurance #1 Plate was presented to the Village Idiots team of Cory Burleson, Chris Headley, John Orchard, Garet Tomlinson and Mark Windham. The Idiots rode their Yamaha YZF-R6 to the Promomin/Repsol Oils Superbike Endurance Class Championship as well.

The Overall Lightweight Endurance #1 Plate was awarded to the Your Pace Or Mine? team of Jeromy Kumper, Braeden Ortt, and Gavin Williams. Your Pace Or Mine? also won the ULGP LW Endurance Class Championship aboard their Yamaha YZF-R3.

2017 CMRA Hall of Fame Inductees were The Hayden Family. Special guests, Norm McDonald and Kevin Schwantz, shared personal memories and accepted the award on behalf of the Hayden Family, who were unable to attend the event. The CMRA Hall of Fame was established in 2002 to honor those CMRA members who have made significant contributions to the CMRA organization through their time and efforts, or who started their careers with CMRA and have brought positive exposure to the organization through their National and International racing championships. The Hayden Family join previous inductees Colin Edwards and Kevin Schwantz (2002), Lou Linden, Sam McDonald and Freddie Spencer (2003), Ronnie Lunsford and Doug Polen (2004), Brooks Gremmels and Ben Spies (2005), Britt Turkington and The Brothers Family (2006), Norm McDonald and Jamie James (2007), Laroy Montgomery (2008), David Hirsch (2011), Ty Howard (2013), Michael Martin (2014), and Dane Westby (2015).

A new award for 2017, The “Mark Sneed Go Racing! Award”, was dedicated in memoriam to CMRA racer Mark Sneed who passed away in a house fire last fall. The cash award was presented by Ben Gooding to two up-and-coming young racers to help with their racing expenses. The first year of the award was presented jointly to Daniel Kinard and Cooper McDonald.

Bridgestone Year-End Bonus Awards presented to top competitors racing on Bridgestone Tires went to: Expert 1st – Danny Dominguez ($300), Expert 2nd – David Dahms ($200), Endurance 1st – Buffington Homes ($150), Endurance 2nd – Lawdawg Racing ($100).
