GABRIEL MARTÍNEZ-ABREGO CONFIRMED AS MOTO3 WILD CARD IN MOTORLAND ARAGÓN
Alicante, Spain – Texas resident and former racer in the USA scenario Gabriel Martinez-Abrego will become this coming 25th of September the first Mexican-born rider to ever take part in a World Championship race during the Grand Premio Movistar de Aragón as the MotoGP comission, consisting of IRTA, Dorna & FIM organizations, approoved his participation in the Moto3 World Championship race as a Wild Card entry.
Gabriel’s presence as a guest rider in a MotoGP weekend is a recognition to the effort the rider and his team have put together during his development process as a professional rider. The program, consisting of an intense training program based in Europe and of his participation in the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3 Junior World Championship Series, has a set goal to place Gabriel as a confirmed Moto3 World Championship team rider in the near future.
‘Gabo’ as he is known by family and firends, has dreamed of becoming a World Championship level rider since he was a kid. He’d watch the MotoGP races with his dad and continusly ask him why there were no Mexican flags on the starting grid. Gabo’s desire has been to present Mexico to the highest level of competition, placing the Mexican flag in the starting grid of a MotoGP event.
What looked like a childhood fantasy has come to life after big efforts. Gabo was born in a family that is devoted to the motorcycle industry and has lived in a racing environment, he grew up hearing about the feats of his grandfather and watched his father race in Mexico and in the USA. Motorcycles were his joy when little and the passion for two wheels has grown bigger in the past decade.
He raced in the USA with good results but soon had the opportunity to move to a different continent. He understood that to be able to reach MotoGP one day he’ll have to race in Europe and made the difficult decision of leaving family & friends to pursue his dream. He moved to Spain to do train as the best riders do, and still found out that most of his competition started off the process much younger. Physical training, mental preparation, riding techniques, race management, diet, etc…, all these activities taking place on the other side of the atlantic ocean and without interrupting his high school studies. The hidden face of the elite athletes, what remains unseen even with triumphs, and all of this because of a dream, the dream of taking the your country flag to the MotoGP World Championship. On September 25th that dream will come true, but it will only mark the begining of a long term goal.

“I am very happy and so excited. I didn’t think I’d receive this opportunity this soon and make my dream of competing in the Moto3 World Championship come true. I will be riding with the best in the world and it will be a great experience that will let me grow as a rider and as a person. My goals are clear: to learn as much as possible and to enjoy this historical weekend giving my best effort. I am well aware of how big a responsibility it is to take the name of Mexico to a MotoGP event for the first time; for that reason I have work harder in the past weeks in order to represent México as my country of origin and the USA as the home of my first racing steps in the best way possible. I am really grateful to my team, my family, my sponsors and those who have supported me since the beginning of this program; all of them have been a key part in me moving forward towards the Moto3 World Championship level.”

“We have achieved a big milestone in Gabo’s preparation process. For the entire team is a great satisfaction that the FIM has given him the approval to participate as Wild Card in the Gran Premio de Aragón. Gabriel started his preparation program a little less than two years ago and being invited to the World Motorcycle Championship so soon makes us feel very proud. The team is going to do its best effort so that this opportunity allows Gabo to continue improving and boosting his talent to become a confirmed rider in our Moto3 team as soon as possible. The possibility of riding side by side with the best riders in the world is a priceless technical and competitive opportunity for a rider.”

“Starting this season I am full time in charge of Gabo’s sporting preparation and coordinate his on-track activities in the FM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship. I am incredibly happy that he has the opportunity to take part in a MotoGP World Championship event and to be able to compare himself to those who will be his direct competitors in the near future. Being able to race side by side with the best in the world will give us important references to continue improving the technical aspects of his training program. A World Championship race is approached in a different way to a race in any other series and that is especially important to assess and boost his competitive level.”
Gabriel’s development program and racing activities are supported & sponsored by Grupo Motomex, Formex Swiss Watches, Motul Lubricants, Kaspersky Lab, Rhodius Abbrasives and Bevel-Tools, and coordinated by Italian Moto3 Wolrd Championship structure Worldwide Race.
