CMRA Bids Farewell to Texas World Speedway

Come out this weekend, March 21 – 22, 2015, to the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) last racing event ever to be held at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas. The track will be shutting its doors in June to make way for a new housing development, so be sure to come out and watch the last round of motorcycle racing on this storied track. Rumor has it that there will be a contingent of past CRRC/CMRA racers making a special visit to pay their respects to the speedway. A special commemorative t-shirt will be for sale at the CMRA Merchandise Tent, vintage bike display, on-track group photos, Saturday night pizza party and Red Bull Mini Moto are just some of the events planned for the weekend.

Located just south of Bryan/College Station on Highway 6, Texas World Speedway, one of only seven Super Speedways in the US, is composed of two road courses: a 1.8-mile short course and a 2.9-mile long course. Race fans will see both courses utilized that weekend.

The weekend activities begin at 7:00 a.m. Friday with a CMRA License school and a track day provided by Lone Star Track Days. Registration information is available here: http://www.lstd.com/html/sor.html.

Saturday’s schedule begins with a full slate of Mini and Lightweight Sprint races, including the Four81 Motos Grom Challenge, Altus Lawton Motorsports – E Superstock and Ultra-Lightweight GP, and Rainbow Sox Racing – Junior Motard class for the youngest racers, ages 8-12 years old. A commemorative group photo will be taken on the front straight at the beginning of lunch time, at approximately 10:15 am.

The opening round of the US National Endurance Series combines with the CMRA Championship Endurance Round Two for an 8-hour race, which begins promptly at 10:45 a.m. A trophy presentation, Texas World Speedway Fond Farewell Pizza Party and the Red Bull Mini Moto finishes the final CMRA Saturday evening with a bang.

Sunday’s schedule is jam-packed with a full day’s worth of competitive Big Bike sprint races. Among the exciting classes not to be missed is the Breast Cancer Research Foundation / P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert class. In addition to a cash purse totaling $14,000 paid out to the top Formula 1 Expert finishers over the course of the 2015 season, a portion of each entry fee is donated to Breast Cancer Research.

A few of the other weekend purse paying classes include, 212Decals.com – A Superbike Expert ($150), South Central Race Center – C Superstock ($185) and Leather and Lace Racing Leathers Repair – Ladies Ultra Lightweight GP ($150). In addition, the new AG Horn sponsored “Go Girl” award is $100 for the female racer with the combined best finishes of the weekend in at least three races. A full list of sponsored classes and payouts can be found here: http://www.cmraracing.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=558&d=1424370009

A group photo will be taken on the front straight at the beginning of lunch time, followed by a spectator lap of the track on Sunday, schedule and weather permitting. Bring a cooler or visit the concession stand located near pit entrance.

Gates open each day at 6:00 a.m. and we race rain or shine! Weekend entry into the event is only $15 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and just $10 on Sunday. Tickets are good for the entire weekend. Ride your street bike to the event and you’ll pay just $5 for entry on both Saturday and Sunday! Kids 12 and under are free.

For those who can’t attend this historic event, live timing and scoring is available for all the races via the Race-Monitor App on mobile devices and online at cmraracing.com/timing.html.

Please note that NO PETS are allowed at Texas World Speedway and at any of the other CMRA race events.
