The family of fallen teen racer Connor LaFrance is planning a memorial 5K Run/Walk to raise money for a scholarship fund in Connor’s memory. The memorial walk is scheduled for Sept. 21, 2008, in Saratoga Springs, New York, according to Connor’s father David, a racer with the Loudon Road Race Series. The family is looking for sponsors for the run/walk to help raise money for the Connor LaFrance Scholarship Fund, which will help young athletes involved in all sports. David LaFrance says the purpose of the scholarship is to provide assistance to a young athlete who needs financial assistance to participate in a specific event at the national level, and to provide assistance to a graduating high school senior who wants to continue competing in their chosen sport after graduation. Connor LaFrance, who was headed into the Red Bull Rookies Cup tryouts last year, died after a crash at Barber Motorsports Park on Friday, September 21, 2007. Connor LaFrance, 14, was riding his 450 Supermotard machine in a racer practice session during a track day and school when he veered off a straight and hit an Armco barrier, suffering fatal internal injuries. Connor LaFrance also was famous in his home town for his skills on the hockey rink, and was known as a small child to sell rocks from his garden to neighbors to help raise money for racing motorcycles.
