Canadian Clint McBain took home victories in both the Open Superstock and Formula One aboard his Cycle Space sponsored GSX-R1000 during a WERA/AMA National Challenge Series weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.

Robert Jensen aboard his Suzuki GSX-R1000 claimed the holeshot in race one, Open Superstock. However, on lap two Clint McBain took over the lead position by out-braking Jensen into Turn One. McBain held onto the lead for the remainder of the race while Jensen and Tray Batey aboard his Vesrah Suzuki GSX-R1000 scrapped for second. Ultimately it was Batey who claimed the runner-up position.

Race three, the 600cc Superstock race, went to Lee Acree aboard his Vesrah Suzuki GSX-R600. Acree passed Jensen for the lead on lap two and maintained the position throughout the race. Mark Junge sat in third, unaware the Joshua Day was mounting a charge from behind. After passing fourth-place runner Keith Marshall, Day overtook Junge on lap seven, but ultimately crashed in Charlotte’s Web allowing Marshall to take the final podium position.

After a red flag caused a restart, it looked as though Lee Acree might run away with the 750cc Superstock win aboard his Vesrah Suzuki GSX-R1750. Acree overtook Robert Jensen on lap two and led up until the last lap when he suffered a mechanical issue that caused his bike to cut out. It was just enough for Jensen to squeak by and take the lead. Meanwhile, Opie Caylor maintained third place until lap six when he was passed by Vesrah’s John Jacobi.

In the last race of the day, Formula One, Jensen rocketed to the front from the third row to do battle with Batey and McBain. At first it looked to be another Jensen/Batey battle, but by lap six, McBain had passed both to take over the lead. McBain and Jensen continued to fight for the lead, with Batey right behind the whole time. At the stripe it was McBain, followed by Jensen, then Batey. The trio had a 15-second gap on fourth place Marshall.
