Cold and Wet Weather Affects CMRA Saturday Racing

April 7, 2018

MotorSport Ranch, Cresson, Texas

The weather on Saturday was cold and wet with a wind chill of 21 degrees. The weather made for some interesting weather conditions, but it didn’t keep the racers from trying their best. Some even came off the track with ice starting to form on their leathers!

Saturday was pretty uneventful due to the weather; lap times were slower, and everyone was a little more conservative while riding. The morning sprints went off without a hitch and then the Team 60 was underway. The top three teams were Kyle Fox/Jim Whitten, Blake Martin/Jonathan Rocha running with their alternate rider, JoJo Anaya, who was subbing for Martin and then Dean Webster/Steve Wilson. All three teams also received first in each of their classes.

Shortly before the 4-Hour Championship Endurance began, the teams came together to reach a gentlemen’s agreement not to run the race due to slick track conditions. Once it was decided, the SuperTeams were asked if they still wanted to ride and they also came to an agreement, but they chose to shorten the race to two hours instead of the four that was on the schedule with the final result being Dogged Racing finishing ahead of Deez Knutz.

When the Solo 30 races rolled around the mist died off and the track started to dry and the lap times started to rise. Cory Burleson came out on top of the box in the Solo 30 Middleweight/Heavyweight class on his MotoBros, Dunlop-shod R3.

Rob Lackey flew around the track during the Solo 30 Lightweight/500 Superstock race. As a Novice, he turned the fastest lap of the day with a 1:33.994 on his Pirelli-shod SV650. Fourteen-year-old, Isaiah Burleson turned the fastest lap for the Experts with a 1:34.454 on his MotoBros R3 trusting in his Dunlop tires to keep him upright in the slick conditions.
