10 laps into the 68-lap 2005 Daytona 200, the lead pack consisted of American Honda’s Miguel Duhamel, American Honda’s Jake Zemke, Erion Honda’s Kurtis Roberts and Vincent Haskovec, the quartet working hard through traffic and pulling away from the rest of the field. On lap 5, Attack Kawasaki’s Josh Hayes had pitted with mechanical problems. On lap 12, Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Haskovec pitted with terminal engine problems. At Lap 17, Roberts led Duhamel and Zemke, 1.117 second covering the lead trio, with Danny Eslick fourth, 17.338 seconds back. Michael Barnes ran fifth on his Venemotos Yamaha R6, 28.285 seconds behind the leader, followed by Jason Perez (-31.717), Chris Peris (-39.179), Mike Smith (-41.895), Pascal Picotte (-41.975) and Simon Turner (-69.337).
