2017 Australian Superbike Championship Shaping up for Crankt Protein Honda Racing

13th October 2016

Crankt Protein Honda Racing is excited to announce the very dynamic pairing of current Australian Superbike Champion, Troy Herfoss and multiple Australian Champion, Bryan Staring to compete in the 2017 Australian Superbike Championship.

Both riders have already signed with the factory Honda superbike team and #27 Jamie Stauffer is in discussion about remaining with the team heading into 2017. Having been part of the team since 2010, Stauffer has proven his professionalism and skill onboard the CBR1000RR time and time again. Team owner and Manager, Paul Free is eager to keep Stauffer in the fold.

Still celebrating his championship win, #1 Troy Herfoss is looking forward to competing for back-to-back ASBK crowns next year and developing the 2017 CBR1000RR SP, saying “We have had a fantastic season on the Crankt Protein Honda yet again. Winning the 2016 ASBK championship after taking out an Australian title in 2015 has been a dream come true. I couldn’t be more thrilled to continue working with Paul, Shaun and the whole team and continuing our success in 2017. We have our final event of the year coming up at Phillip Island for the Australian MotoGP which is always a great event so hopefully we can finish the year with another few race wins.”

Bryan Staring brings a wealth of experience and talent to Crankt Protein Honda Racing, having spent 6 years racing in Europe in World Superbike, Supersport, Superstock and MotoGP. The 28 year old has 3 Australian Championships under his belt in the 125GP, Supersport and the 2010 Australian Superbike Championship and is keen to mount a challenge on the 2017 Superbike title onboard the Crankt Protein Honda Racing CBR1000RR SP. “To be in the position to return to Australia and race with a team as professional as Motologic Honda is both a privilege and a pleasure. I couldn’t be happier to join the reigning ASBK champions and be equipped with a product as good as Honda, especially with the anticipation of the new bike. The Australian championship is going from strength to strength and I’m delighted to be part of what is now a deeply talented field. I’ll have a great teammate in Troy Herfoss who is an insanely tough competitor and I’m really looking forward to working the whole Motologic team. Although I’m saddened to leave the world championship without achieving what I dreamed I could have, six seasons there was a bigger experience than I could have imagined and I’m satisfied in that I gave it everything I had with no regrets and no stone unturned. I’m ready to come home and I smile at the thought of this new challenge and the people around me. I thank Motologic and Honda Australia for having me back.”

Crankt Protein Honda Racing Manager, Paul Free is pleased with how the 2017 season is shaping up for Honda, saying “We have had a huge season in 2016 with the whole gauntlet of highs and lows, but we ultimately finished on a massive high with Troy taking the Australian Superbike Title. I am really excited to go racing in 2017. We welcome Bryan back to the Australian Championship and our Honda team. He now has 6 years of experience in the world championships under his belt and it will be terrific to see what he can do back on Australian soil onboard the CBR1000RR SP. We are still in discussion with Jamie presently to maximize his success in 2017. Jamie’s skill on a motorcycle and his wealth of knowledge about the motorcycle is a fantastic asset and we are of course very keen to retain him heading into next year. Troy is pumped to try and win his second ASBK title in a row so we have a very exciting season of racing coming up in 2017.”

The Australian MotoGP event at Phillip Island will be held on the 21st to 23rd October and marks the final road racing event on the calendar for Crankt Protein Honda Racing.
