HM Plant Honda’s Ryuichi Kiyonari lost his lead in the British Superbike Championship when he crashed out of the first of two races at Mallory Park April 24 in England. Kiyonari had won the first four races of the series and looked to continue that pace after taking pole position in qualifying at Mallory Park, but the young Japanese rider rode off-course during a re-start of the first race and heavily impacted a tire barrier. According to reports in the British media, Kiyonari suffered a fracture to his right leg and a concussion. He is expected to undergo tests this week to see if he will be able to ride in round four of the British Superbike series, Monday, May 2, at Oulton Park. Kiyonari’s teammate Michael Rutter went on to win both races at Mallory Park and now leads Kiyonari in the British Superbike Championship point standings by 19 points after six of 26 races.
