Cycle Fest at Miller Motorsports Park: Best Motorcycle Event of the Year? TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (September 8, 2008) “” The big events, like the StriVectin-SD USA round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship at Miller Motorsports Park or the MotoGP events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, get a lot of publicity. They have huge marketing budgets, and those attract big crowds. But sometimes bigger isn’t necessarily better. Case in Point: This past weekend’s Cycle Fest at Miller Motorsports Park. Not so flashy, not very many million-dollar transporters, small marketing budgets, not much media coverage, but arguably the best motorcycle event in America. The weekend included the XTRM AMA Supermoto Championship, featuring a thrilling come-from-behind win for Troy Herfoss over local hero Cassidy Anderson; the Bonneville GP for the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA), a rolling history of two-wheeled motorsport illustrated with hundreds of historic bikes of all descriptions, plus historic and contemporary sidecar racing and a concours d’elegance; MMP’s own Honda Presents the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains road racing series; plus a slow-speed skills competition hosted by the Utah Highway Patrol in which the public was invited to compete. In all, more than 780 motorcycles were on the grounds to take part in the various activities. The lasting impression was one of laid-back camaraderie; all the competitors in the different events seemed to be smiling, a healthy number of spectators came out to enjoy the perfect weather, the track staff had a firm handle on the organizational aspects and a good time was had by all. “For me,” said Miller Motorsports Park CEO/General Manager Alan Wilson, “this is the best event of the year. Not to take anything away from the Superbike World Championship, AMA Superbikes, American Le Mans Series, Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series or anything else we do, but this is our most enjoyable event. It reminds me of the way racing used to be; low-key, no politics, no drama, just pure motorsports enjoyment. I think you could make a case that this is the best motorcycle event in America, and we hope to make it an annual tradition in the years to come.” For tickets or information regarding Miller Motorsports Park, call 435-277-RACE (7223) or visit the track’s website at www.MillerMotorsportsPark.com.
