Superbike Racing Tightens Up

Pro Superbike points leader Elie Daccache got a great start and led for most of the race but Ottawa racer Jim Proulx would have none of it. Proulx attached himself to Daccache for most of the 10 lap final and then made a daring pass coming out of the esses to take the lead and win, tightening up the points standing for the Pro Superbike R.A.C.E. Super Series class championship. Daccache now holds a slim 4-point advantage going into the next round. The best seat in the house, for the close racing in front of him, belonged to Steve “Doc” Walker. Walker took the final step of the podium aboard his BMW S1000R.

In Pro 6 Cycle & Dunlop Tire Pro 600 action, Daccache lead from start to finish and solidified his lead in the championship points hunt. In a race to the flag, Tottenham rider Anthony Scavone took the second step of the podium with Brent Strong in third.

The most exciting action of the weekend took place in the hotly contested Muskoka Brewery sponsored Amateur Superbike racing event. Belleville’s Mike Raniowski got a great jump and earned the early lead with Kingston’s Steve Cole in tow. Raniowski pushed his Fuerst Racing prepped GSXR600 to a healthy lead while behind him, Cole and Chris Brent had a war to settle second place. By mid point of the race, Brent finally untangled himself from Cole and took off after “Take Mike For Granite” sponsored Raniowski. On the last lap of the race Brent had reeled Raniowski in and made a pass in the hairpin, only to temporarily lose the advantage again. With the checkered flag in sight, Brent made a final pass going into Allen’s corner to take a hard-fought win. Raniowski had to settle for second while Cole brought it home to take the final step of the podium. Chris Fehr took fourth just ahead of fifth place rider Paul MacIntosh.

Raniowski battled for another big win against Chris Brent in the Gravenhurst Plastics Amateur 600 Production class. With a great jump, Raniowski was enjoying a big lead in the race until Brent closed up and looked to be making a run for the win. On the penultimate lap, Brent had a small off-track excursion however and excluded himself from the win. Brent recovered though, to finish in second place, now just ahead of a hard charging Chris Fehr, who had to settle for third. In fourth was Michael van Ek with fifth going to Todd Ferguson.

In a barnburner race, “Doc” Walker and Hans Van Sleuwen battled for the entire race, each in turn shattering the track record. Van Sluewen first knocked 2 seconds off the existing record and then Walker shaved it even more. When the dust settled, Walker ended up with the race win, dropping the record from 1:56 and change to 1:51.858. In third was Cameron Walker.
