CVMA ROUND 7 CLOSES OUT THE 2015-16 SEASON WITH TONS OF RACING EXCITEMENT

Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association wrapped up the 2015-16 Winter series the same way it started, with big grids and dramatic racing.

The injury to Daytona Anderson last round left the 1 plate up for grabs and Dale Kieffer was there to collect it for the second time in three years. Dale rode his Racers Edge Pirelli Suzuki GSX-R1000 to a commanding win in the club’s premier event on Sunday to earn the Open Shootout title and the coveted number 1 for next season.

Pittman Wallace entered the weekend with his sights set on most overall points. It wasn’t going to be easy and circumstances made it even harder. His Formula 2 race on Saturday ended with a dramatically blown motor. The DNF deepened the points hole he was already in. Sunday, on a borrowed bike, he competed in five races and put it on the podium in three. Hard work pays off, next year, Pittman will be sporting a big number 2 on the front of his bike.

While most Canadians visit Southern California to soak up the sun, the father/son duo of Francois and Alex Dumas returned to Chuckwalla for competitive racing and to collect some trophies. Aboard his BMW S1000RR, Francois battled against the Yamaha R1s of Zack Courts and Kris Aldeman in the Open class races. The trio were so evenly matched that each rider managed to earn the top spot in at least one of the races. Courts and Aldeman split Superstock Open wins: Courts on Saturday and Aldeman Sunday. Dumas collected the Formula Open win on Saturday.

The younger Dumas, Alex, rode the rubber off his KTM RC390 and managed to beat Ari Henning in the Sunday Ultra Lightweight Shootout. Beating Henning is no easy feat. At 13, Alex is too young to compete in MotoAmerica so he has set his sights on the Mexican KTM Cup series. In a few weeks, he travels even farther south for tryouts.

The close racing wasn’t limited to the big bikes. Jake Tihanyi managed to win three of the five middleweight contests but not without a fight. Ryan Whitman, Tyler Jones and Michael Weir made sure he had to work for them. Whitman won Sunday’s Supersport Middleweight race and Weir took home the Shootout trophy.

Racing at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway returns on September 17-18, 2016, for Round 1 of our 2016-17 Winter Series.
