Adams Wins Four at MotorSport Ranch with CMRA
Daniel Adams grabbed four podiums in heavy competition during the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) third round of Bridgestone/CMRA Championship sprints this past Sunday, April 24, on the 1.7-mile counterclockwise course at MotorSport Ranch in Cresson, Texas.
A second day of very breezy weather and temperatures in the low 80’s continued to improve track conditions. Adams, the defending Number One plate holder went to work, riding his Pirelli-shod Suzuki SV650 to the wins in Lightweight Twins Expert, D Superstock Expert, Century Trucks and Vans – D Superbike Expert, and Lightweight Twins Expert.
For the middleweights, Brandon Cleland took the wins in South Central Race Center – C Superstock Expert and M4/P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert, aboard his RES-prepped, Pirelli-shod Yamaha YZF-R6. Cleland also ran the fastest lap of the weekend, turning a crazy fast 1:14.918 on Lap 4 of the C Superstock race.
Morning qualifying for Sunday’s headline race, M4/P1 Racing – Formula 1 Expert was exciting, with lap times in the high teens, with Brandon Cleland, Brandon Young riding his Suzuki GSX-R1000 and Craig Montgomery on a Kawasaki ZX-10R grabbing the top the spots for the front row of the race.
As the 22-bike grid lined up, Cleland had pole position, with Young in the middle, and Montgomery on the outside of the row. The start lights went out, and they were off. The pack charged into turn one, with Cleland in the lead, Young and Montgomery neck in neck, with Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted Garet Tomlinson and James Camacho on their six. Cleland was determined, and put down a 1:15.035 for the fastest lap of the race on Lap 2, and began to stretch out his lead. Young turned a 1:16.025, and Montgomery threw down a 1:16.449 in response, but Cleland continued to pour it on. Tomlinson suffered a mechanical, and dropped back, leaving Camacho in fourth and holding off Jeff Wrobel breathing down his back on a Suzuki GSX-R1000. Alonzo Contreras, riding a Suzuki GSX-R600,had his hands full with Joseph Caruso on his BMW S1000RR, and Jordan Pence nipping their heels on a Yamaha YZF-R6.
As the race wound down, Cleland continued to stretch his lead, taking the checkers with an impressive 9.598 seconds over second. Young crossed the line next, followed by Montgomery, Camacho, and Wrobel. Contreras, Caruso, Pence, Ron Mears, and Greg Gilstrap rounded out the top ten. Cleland also took the P1 Racing $100 purse for being the first 600 across the line.
Top Novice Terence Ladner rode his Yamaha YZF-R1 to the wins in OnRoad OffRoad Suspension – A Superstock Novice and SpeedFreakDecals.com – Formula 1 Novice, turning a fastest lap of 1:20.522 on Lap 5 of the A Superstock race.
The Jennifer Millsap “Get it Girl” $100 award, sponsored by A. C. Horn, went to Shandra Crawford for her combined finishes aboard her Triumph Daytona 675R.
Unfortunately, the race day ended early when an on-track incident in Race 17 caused a red flag. The remaining races 18-22 will be rescheduled for a future event, to be announced.
