Celtic Racing Yamaha’s Chaz Davies will test a factory Ducati Desmosedici MotoGP bike September 11-12 at Mugello in Italy. “After Laguna Seca, they wanted me to race at Brno,” Davies told Roadracingworld.com Tuesday. “That didn’t happen. Then Ducati was keen to give me another go at Misano, which didn’t happen, again. They said, ‘Right, forget about the racing. Let’s give you a test.’ “I think Casey [Stoner] — I’ve been friends with him for the past few years — I think he put in a good word or two with Ducati. And I think they were pretty happy with what I did at Laguna for the position I was in.” Davies ran relatively competitive lap times on the d’Antin Ducati MotoGP bike at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca in spite of missing the first practice session, not to mention having never ridden anything more powerful than a 600cc AMA Formula Xtreme racebike before that weekend. “So I managed to get a test organized alongside Vitto Guareschi, Ducati’s test rider,” Davies continued. “So I’ll be riding the development bike next week, Tuesday and Wednesday at Mugello. It should be cool. I’m really interested to see how I go on it. “They’re saying things [Ducati MotoGP rides] for next year are fairly full. But I think they’re interested for future reference, if nothing else, to put me on a bike on what they call a real track, Mugello rather than Laguna. It’s good to have interest like that.” Davies said he has no firm commitments to any team for 2008.
