Nash was joined by his teammate Joey Pascarella in the top five with Pascarella earning fifth in the afternoon. Tomas Puerta was 12th after placing sixth in the morning. Nash, who is also contesting Daytona SportBike this weekend, showed remarkable pace with the extra track time. The Marietta, Georgia, rider led the SuperSport session until it was red-flagged late and then re-started. “I got down to the 1:31s consistently on a shagged tire. I kept the same tire I had on from Daytona Sport Bike practice and kept doing what I was doing and that turned out to be third place,” said Nash. “Things are going well for us. We raced here last year so I had at least been here before and that helped. I’m looking to qualify on the front row and I haven’t done it yet this year. It’s been a goal of mine. I was fifth at the last race and tomorrow’s looking good. I’m wanting to keep up the momentum and have a good weekend.” Nash was also third in the second group in the second Daytona Sport Bike session. He’ll qualify again tomorrow in both classes. Joey Pascarella missed the last AMA National due to a Supermoto commitment and the former series point leader faced injury before that. He’s back in action at VIR and on the pace. The Californian was fifth in both sessions on Friday. “I felt pretty good and the bike is working well,” said Joey. “We have some rear spin we’re working on solving. We get to use the good front tires this weekend, so I’m stoked. I’m looking forward to getting a good qualifying in and hopefully the front row. I’ve been right there with the front group most races but I haven’t won yet, so I’m looking to get a win before the season’s out and end the year strong for my confidence.” Colombian Tomas Puerta’s day was not truly reflected on the time sheets. He was very consistent on longer runs in preparation for the race but did not post the quick times other riders did. “I like the track a lot. The first practice was a good one, even though the visibility was not very good due to fog,” said Puerta. “There was a red flag in the second session. I felt really good but there was a lot of traffic after that and I never good one really good lap.” The three fast teens will qualify tomorrow for Sunday’s 18-lap race.
