COOLER WEATHER IN DESERT CENTER FOR CVMA ROUND 2 RACES

Daytona Anderson Sets New Lap Record in Supersport Open Class

This past weekend Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association threw the green flag for 27 races during Round 2 of the club’s 2014-2015 Winter Series. Temperatures have finally subsided in Desert Center, CA, aiding the performance of both riders and machines.

Cooler temperatures contributed to better focus and stamina for all, but it was Daytona Anderson that benefitted most, winning five races aboard his Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 including Supersport Open and Formula Open both days as well as Sunday’s 12-lap Open Shootout event. In Sunday’s Open Supersport race Daytona set a new class record, lapping the 2.68-mile, 17-turn circuit in just 1:47.37 minutes.

“This is my first full season on my Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000,” said Anderson. “I made two significant changes this weekend that gave me all the confidence to push it in every corner. I recently switched over to the Dunlop tires and the harder I push them the better they work. I also made a big geometry change this weekend that gave me a lot of confidence under braking.”

The only person to threaten Daytona’s success was fellow young gun Benny Solis, who celebrated his last weekend as a 20-year-old by winning the Formula Middleweight and Middleweight Supersport races on Saturday as well as the TrackDaz Middleweight Shootout on Sunday. Solis, riding his Honda CBR600RR, was hot on Daytona’s tail during the early laps of Sunday’s 12-lap SoCal TrackDays Open Shootout Race, but he couldn’t quite keep up with his compatriot on the 1000. Of course, that’s the way Daytona wanted it.

“I knew the shootout was going to have the stiffest competition,” says Anderson, “but I knew my Suzuki was more than capable so I did my best to put my head down and break second place. I was able to make my break the first few laps and steadily increased the gap from there for the win.”

In the amateur ranks Nicholas Ciling put his new Yamaha R1M on the podium twice each day with wins in Amateur Formula Open and Amateur Supersport Open. CVMA newcomer Raphael DaSilva matched Ciling’s success in the amateur middleweight classes with a clean sweep of the Amateur Formula Middleweight and Amateur Supersport Middleweight classes aboard his Yamaha YZF-R6.

CVMA offers two full days of racing every race weekend and also includes Saturday qualifying for grid position in all classes, amateur and expert, as well as a wide variety of classes to choose from. Additionally, CVMA offers free reciprocity as a means of encouraging racers from other clubs to come out and compete.
