Delay At COTA Results In Postponement, Cancellation Of MotoAmerica Sessions

The start of the FIM Moto3 Free Practice One (FP1) Friday at Circuit of The Americas was delayed because a light rain was starting to fall and the track was neither dry enough for slicks nor wet enough for rain tires. The rain continued, the track became completely wet and the Moto3 practice was started 50 minutes late.

This delay had a cascading effect on the schedule, resulting in MotoGP FP1 and Moto2 FP1 being pushed back. It also forced MotoAmerica to condense its schedule.

The MotoAmerica Superbike/Superstock 1000cc qualifying session originally scheduled for 11:55 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. has been postponed until 4:50 p.m. to 5:25 p.m., and the MotoAmerica Superbike/Superstock 1000cc Top 12 Qualifying Shootout originally scheduled for Friday afternoon has been cancelled.

In addition, the MotoAmerica Supersport qualifying session scheduled to start at 4:05 p.m. Friday has been shortened from 40 minutes to 35 minutes.

At post time, a dog running loose on the track forced MotoGP Free Practice One to be halted with the red flag. An attempt to capture the dog caused a delay before the session could be restarted. There’s no word if this new delay will have any effect on the day’s schedule.

UPDATE: Due to additional delays, Friday’s MotoAmerica schedule at Circuit of The Americas has been amended further. Supersport qualifying will now happen between 4:15 and 4:45 p.m. local time, and Superbike/Superstock 1000cc qualifying will take place between 4:55 and 5:25 p.m., barring any further delays in the schedule.

MotoAmerica runs as a support program to the FIM MotoGP World Championship program during the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas at COTA.
