Frenchak Takes Three Podiums At MSR Houston With CMRA

Doug Frenchak put on a fantastic show as he rode his Pirelli-shod Yamaha YZF-R1 to wins in the Formula 1 Expert, A Superbike Expert, and A Superstock Expert races during the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) eighth round of Bridgestone/CMRA Championship sprints this past Sunday, October 29, on the 17-turn, 2.38 mile full road course at MSR Houston in Angleton, Texas.

Clear skies and chilly morning temperatures in the low 40’s gave way to sunshine, and temperatures climbed to the mid 70’s with a steady breeze that made for fast lap times.

Frenchak put his head down, taking the win in P1 Racing/Metric Garage /CVC – Formula 1 Expert, with a fastest lap of 1:34.467, on Lap 3 of Race 10 – Formula 1 Expert and taking the championship for the year. He went on to grab two more wins in 212Decals.com – A Superbike Expert and RaceworX – A Superstock Expert, giving him those championships as well.

Daniel Adams was out front for the Lightweights, taking the wins in Century Trucks and Vans – Formula 2 Expert, Lightweight Twins Expert, D Superstock Expert, Formula 40 Lightweight Expert, and finishing third in D Superbike Expert with his Suzuki SV650, running a fastest lap of 1:39.801 on Lap 5 of Race 9, Formula 2 Expert.

Morning qualifying for Sunday’s headline Formula 1 Expert race saw lap times in the mid-thirties despite the chilly conditions. Doug Frenchak took pole position with his Yamaha YZF-R1, with Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted Brandon Cleland and Alan Phillips rounding out the front row.

As the 11 bike grid lined up, the tension mounted. The start lights went out, the grid shot forward and Frenchak, Cleland, and Phillips all out front in a battle for position. Frenchak had the lead, with Cleland on his six and Phillips right behind. Phillips was on fire, turning the fastest lap of the race on lap 2 with a 1:34.227. Frenchak held his lead, while Phillips applied pressure to Cleland. In a dramatic pass headed onto the front straight, Phillips got around Cleland for second, and went after Frenchak. Frenchak rode even harder, hold ing onto his lead to take the checkers for the win a mere 0.920 seconds ahead of Phillips. Cleland crossed next, taking third. Phillips also grabbed the P1 Racing purse for being the first 600 across the line.

Top Novice went to Tyler Raboin, riding his Yamaha YZF-R6 to four podiums total. Raboin took the wins in MotorSport Ranch – B Superstock Novice, B Superbike Novice, Altus Lawton Motorosports – C Superbike Novice, and Moto Liberty – C Superstock Novice, , turning a fastest lap of 1:38.997 on Lap 4 of Race 5, the C Superstock race.
