Doug Frenchak, Shannon Moham Claim MRA Wins at Pueblo Motorsports Park

Pueblo, CO, June 6, 2018 – Round 2 of the Motorcycle Roadracing Association championship series happened at Pueblo Motorsports Park the weekend of June 2-3. The two day event was shortened on Sunday due to a strong storm that moved into the area and the inability to use the Pueblo track in wet conditions. All races were shortened in order to get the premier Race of the Rockies event completed before the rain.

Over the past few years, Ryan Burke has been the consistent front runner in Race of the Rockies GTO. This weekend was going to be different, though. In qualifying, Frenchak took the pole over Burke, and in Open Superbike, Brad Morris take the win over Doug Frenchak with Dan Turner third and Ryan Burke fourth. Clearly this was going to be an unpredictable day.

From the start, Frenchak took the lead very closely followed by Brad Morris with Dan Turner and Ryan Burke not too far behind. As the laps continued, Frenchak and Morris gapped everyone else and it became clear that this was going to be the battle for the win. Morris shadowed Frenchak’s for 8 of the 10 laps and strategically made a move in lap 9 to take the lead. Turner and Burke continued to battle for the final podium position with Burke getting the better of Turner on lap 7.

On the closing lap, Frenchak was able to counter Morris’ lead and took over the lead and the win by barely over a bike length. Unfortunately, there was a red flag on the final lap of the race before all competitors had completed the event. By MRA (and almost every other club’s) rules, scoring reverts back to the last completed lap, which would have handed the win to Morris. In this case, the top 6 RoR competitors had crossed the finish line before the red flag so the MRA officials decided to implement the MotoAmerica rule 1.26.c. and declared partial results for those who crossed the finish combined with reverted finishes for those who hadn’t seen the checkered flag.

Race of the Rockies GTU saw Shannon Moham take the lead from the start and never looked back. Sean Thomas was riding with an injury he suffered from a practice crash earlier in the week. Nonetheless, he was able to cut fantastic lap times to take second. Brian Dobrowolski took third from the start and put down impressively consistent lap times to finish in the final podium position for the GTU class.

Doug Frenchak is sponsored by RaceWorx, MotoMummy, Superbikes Unlimited, Quik Cycles, Pirelli, General Air, 380 Racing, Vortex Racing, Hotbodies Racing, and Sol Performance.

Shannon Moham is sponsored by Nordic Nursing, Dunlop tires, Race Tech suspension, Woodcraft CFM, K&N Filters, Vortex, GPR dampers, Lockhart Phillips, Vickery Motorsports, Motors by REX, Renegade race fuels, Pit Bull stands, Imperial Sportbikes, Denver n Dakota, Segren’s Nectar, MOM, and Falicon crankshafts.

Round 3 of the MRA season will be at High Plains Raceway over the weekend of June 30-July 1. The annual MRA 4-hour endurance race will also be during Round 3, so there will be no SuperStreet event.

The Motorcycle Roadracing Association is dedicated to promoting safe and competitive motorcycle road racing events for enthusiasts in Colorado and the surrounding area. For more information go to http://www.mra-racing.org/.
