Andrea Dovizioso, the third-place finisher in the 2011 MotoGP World Championship, underwent surgery January 7 in Bologna, Italy, to repair his broken right collarbone, an injury the new Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider suffered while training on a motocross bike January 5. The surgery was performed by Dr. Giuseppe Porcellini, the same doctor who worked on Valentino Rossi’s shoulder in 2010. According to a report on the official MotoGP website, the injury should not prevent 25-year-old Dovizioso from participating in the January 31-February 2 test (the first official test of the 2012 season) at Sepang, in Malaysia. “Hi guys after 1 hour under surgery I am like new!!!” Dovizioso wrote on his Twitter account on January 7.
