Dual sport riders in Southern California raised more than dust in the San Bernardino National Forest yesterday. The 250 participants also brought $37,483 in donations for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® (PBTF). The warm, sunny day began with a free pancake breakfast at Glen Helen Raceway, followed by awards to top fundraisers and interviews with local brain tumor survivors Bryan, Amanda and Kate. Amanda, a PBTF scholarship recipient, graduated from college near the top of her class. “My wish is that soon we won’t need to raise money because we will be able to cure all pediatric brain tumors,” she told the crowd. The top fundraisers were: Individual: Loyd Waters, $5,000 Club/chapter: Orange County Dualies, $8,760 Motorcycle business: Simi Valley Honda Can-Am Spyder, $14,675 Thanks to our Ride for Kids® sponsors for providing the drawing prizes that went to Eric Sargent (Honda motorcycle); Jeff Heine (Dunlop tire); Gabriela Castillo (AGV helmet); Ron Cepec (Tourmaster luggage); and Loyd Waters (Cardo Scala Rider headset). After the program, the riders traveled over 100 miles through the mountains of the San Bernardino National Forest on remote trails, gravel roads and forest service roads. The Southern California Dual Sport Ride for Kids® thanks AMA District 37 Dual Sport and the U.S. Forest Service for their support. This event is organized by volunteers, led this year by Jim and Roberta Woods, Chris and Loretta Casteel, Kieth Huff, Buddy Percin and Paul Flanders. About the PBTF Ride for Kids® Ride for Kids® supports the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® (PBTF) by funding medical research and family support programs.
