The Ducati Superbike Concorso concluded its regional rounds at Road Atlanta. Braselton, Georgia (September 2, 2007) Ducati North America announces today the winners of the fourth round of the Superbike Concorso, a celebration of Ducati Superbikes, which was held during the AMA Superbike race weekend at Road Atlanta. Road Atlanta made for the most difficult judging yet. Some true rarities competed in this round of the competition, and visitors to the Concorso display were not disappointed. In the closest race yet, the People’s Choice award went to Mike Cecchini by a 2 vote margin. Fred Jennings was awarded Best Original Superbike for his 1999 748 Monoposto, which looks as if it left the showroom yesterday. The award for the “Best Modified” category went to Jack Newell’s 2005 999R, a true “sleeper” with serious modifications under its factory red paint. As racecaster Ralph Sheheen wrapped up the awards ceremony, the “Best in Show” award went to Mr. Bill Swenson, who brought his exceptionally prepared 1975 900 Super Sport – a model so rare that few of the esteemed Concorso judges had ever seen one in person. The competition was so stiff at Road Atlanta that after a “run off” where each bike was started for the judges, the last two wildcard entries for the grand finale were awarded. Mike Checchini’s 750 Sport Desmo- a heavily modified Café Racer- was too good to let go, and will be at Laguna Seca. Peter Calles will also be there, with his immaculate 1973 750 Sport- the bike that inspired the new Ducati Sport 1000. The next round of the Superbike Concorso will be the grand finale, where all the regional winners will go head to head against each other for a new 1098 The Grand Finale will take place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, September 16, 2007.
