PIRELLI MT 60 RS, the chosen tire of the DUCATI SCRAMBLER

The new motorcycle model is equipped with specifically designed tires, sized 110/80 R18 front and 180/55 R17 rear, on all four variations

Palm Springs (USA) –The MT 60 RS is the Pirelli tire designed for the DUCATI SCRAMBLER, the latest model launched by the Borgo Panigale company in four versions: Icon, Urban Enduro, Full Throttle and Classic.

The front 3.00” x 18” and the rear 5.50” x 17” wheels of the DUCATI SCRAMBLER are designed to be lightweight and will be fitted with the new enduro street tires from Pirelli, the MT 60 RS 110/80 R18 front and 180/55 R17 rear, as original equipment. These have been specially made for the SCRAMBLER with a dedicated design of the knobs which offers excellent handling on any terrain.

Ducati chose Pirelli for the new SCRAMBLER – a contemporary motorcycle that offers the perfect mix of tradition and modernity to express the pure essence of motorcycling – confirming the strong link between the two Italian companies.

MT 60 RS is a product that has been present in Pirelli’s enduro street tire range for many years and has always been a benchmark for the segment, thanks to its ability to combine sports-road performance with traction on unpaved roads. During the development of new sizes required by Ducati for the four versions of the SCRAMBLER, Pirelli has totally redesigned the MT 60 RS in terms of specifications and performance.

The tread pattern of the sizes of the MT 60 RS designed ad hoc for the SCRAMBLER presents larger and more variable size ‘knobs’ along the edge, thus giving rise to a design of multi-pitch compared to the single-pitch that characterized the original tire.

This results in a significant decrease of the void ratio, and in the increase of the contact surface with the reduction of the mobility of the knobbly tread.

The resulting benefits are a reduction in braking distance thanks to the work of the front tire, and greater stability both on the straight and in lean. Finally, thanks to the multi-pitch tread design, the noise generated on tarmac is significantly decreased compared to the original MT 60 RS.

The product upgrade is completed with new compounds that take advantage of the experience and technology gained in this area by Pirelli in recent years.

At the front Pirelli used a compound derived directly from the sporty DIABLO ROSSO™ II, with a balanced content of silica and Carbon Black, which provides dynamic riding with a high grip both on dry and wet surfaces.

Regarding the rear, the choice has fallen on a sport touring compound with high silica content so as to ensure long distances and a high grip on wet.

Finally, the structure of the front tire was also completely redesigned to become radial with a 0° steel belt instead of its previous radial with cross-ply belts structure; therefore offering significant benefits in terms of stability and steering precision.
