Dominguez Wins Formula 1 Expert at CMRA Fourth Annual Dane Westby Classic
Formula 1 Expert was the race to watch during the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) Fourth Annual Dane Westby Classic this past Sunday, May 20, on the 11-turn, 1.8 mile counter clockwise course at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, near Hallett, Oklahoma.
The morning started off wet but as the morning sprints passed the track dried up making for better conditions for the Formula 1 Expert race later in the day. When the lights went out Dustin Dominguez settled into an early groove but the battle roared behind him. With multiple position changes and some unfortunate mechanical problems, there were multiple position changes as Hayden Schultz, Joseph Caruso and Alan Phillips worked their way to the front of the pack. After Schultz passed, Phillips set his sights to reel him in. Schultz fought his way around Caruso and then had an unfortunate mechanical error and was forced to retire for the remainder of the race. Phillips continued to fight his way to the front and had a fun battle with Caruso throughout the last few laps of the race. Phillips finally got around him, couldn’t completely shake him but still pulled off the second place finish with Dustin Dominguez at the top of the box running the fastest lap of the race at a 1:16.995. Phillips finished 4 seconds behind and Caruso a second later rounding out the top three of one of the more exciting Formula 1 Expert races this season.
Current Number 1 plate holder, Daniel Adams landed at the top of the box five times this past Sunday aboard his Pirelli-shod Suzuki SV650. Adams successfully won first place in Superstock D Expert running a fastest lap of 1:30.109, Formula 40 Lightweight Expert running a fastest lap of 1:23.164. He did it again in Formula 2 Expert with a fast lap of 1:20.860, Superbike D Expert with a fast lap of 1:23.086. Adams then finished his day of with another first in Lightweight Twins Expert with a fast lap of 1:22.876.
Other top Experts for the weekend included Jay Newton who finished on the box in all five of his races: first places in B Superstock, C Superstock, B Superbike, C Superbike, and 2nd place in A Superstock where he ran the fastest lap of weekend at 1:16.591.
Dustin Dominguez podiumed three times, all first places in Formula 1, A Superbike and A Superstock.
First year Novice, Andrew Forsythe shined this weekend by bringing home the most Novice podiums. Forsythe received a first place in Lightweight Twins Novice with a fast lap of 1:34.392, a second in Superstock D Novice with a fast lap of 1:39.075, and then two thirds in Formula 2 Novice with a fast lap of 1:35.364, and Superbike D Novice with a fast lap of 1:36.934.
Kevin Manning was another Novice who put his head down and turned some fast laps. Manning ran the fastest lap of the Novices during the Formula 1 Novice race with a fast lap of 1:20.298.
