CCS Florida Finale Homestead-Miami Speedway December 5, 2010

By Lisa Theobald

Sean Dwyer ran away with the Unlimited Grand Prix win on his backup GSX-R1000 at Homestead-Miami Speedway during the CCS Florida season finale Sunday. (Dwyer’s “A” bike has not yet returned from his recent competition in the Macau Grand Prix.)

Dwyer nailed an early lead in the final race of the season, and stretched his gap on second place with each lap. Behind him Eric Wood held second place until the final run for the checkered flag, when Barrett Long pulled alongside him on the front straight in the run to the flag, resulting in a photo finish at the line. Dwyer took the final victory of the year without challenge with scoring giving second to Long followed by Eric Wood, Jeff Wood and Santiago Villa.

Dwyer finished the weekend undefeated, also winning the GTO, Unlimited Supersport, and Unlimited Superbike races. Long was victorious in the Supertwins race, and Wood won the Heavyweight Superbike class.

Stefano Mesa and Kevin Mendez tied as winningest racers of the weekend with five victories each. Mendez won the GT Lights, Lightweight Grand Prix, Lightweight Formula 40, Lightweight Superbike, and Thunderbike races. Mesa won the GTU, 125cc Grand Prix, Heavyweight Supersport, Middleweight Superbike, and Middleweight Grand Prix races.

Amateur Sean Cassell finished the season as Florida’s Overall Amateur Champion, and finished the season with six class Championships. Cassell is also the winningest CCS Florida Amateur in history, with a new record of 50 race wins in a single season.

Villa wrapped up the season with Number One plates in three CCS regions. He is the Expert Regional Overall Champion in the Florida, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic regions.
