Dwyer Wins Shootout

CCS Florida/Southeast

Jennings GP

Sean Dwyer won the CCS Unlimited Grand Prix April 7 at Jennings GP, in Jennings, Florida, after an exciting battle for the lead with Bruno Silva and Michael Barnes.

It was Gus Sanchez who nailed the holeshot with his Kawasaki ZX-10R, but Sanchez crashed out before completing the first lap. This put Silva out front at the end the first lap on his Prieto Performance-prepped Kawasaki ZX-10R.

The pace picked up on lap two with all the front runners turning their fastest lap times of the race. Barnes took over the front spot before the halfway mark on his Prieto Performance Kawasaki ZX-10R (borrowed from Santiago Villa) with Dwyer in hot pursuit on his KWS Suzuki GSX-R1000. Dwyer made his passing move around Barnes in Turn Four to take over the lead and dominate the second half of the race. Dwyer was able to maintain his advantage to the checkered flag with Barnes a close second and Silva in third.

Jeff Lampe finished fourth and his teammate Felipe MacLean was fifth, making it Kawasakis in four out of the top five finishing spots.

After the race, third-place Silva said, “Was a nice shootout! I think it was the funnest I ever raced!” He congratulated Barnes and Dwyer, thanked his sponsors, Prieto Performance, GMD Computrack, and Pirelli, and dedicated his third place finish to his younger brother, Lucas. Earlier in the day, Silva won the GTO, Unlimited Superbike, and Lightweight Superbike classes.

Barnes stated, “Both these guys really gave it to me the whole weekend and I was happy to be able to ride Santiago’s bike and I wish I would have brought him home a win. But here’s a second for you, Santi. I wish you were here!” He thanked Villa’s sponsors for the ride, which gave him an opportunity to, “give me some big bike time prior to getting my butt handed over to me in MotoGP in Austin, Texas, in two weeks.” Barnes also thanked Henry DeGouw and CCS Florida for “putting on one of the best races that I have ever had the opportunity to be involved with.

“I appreciate all your efforts,” he continued. “It’s a real professional organization and couldn’t be better.”

On the podium, Dwyer complimented his competition. “It was awesome,” he said. “It wouldn’t mean anything if these guys weren’t as good as they are and their efforts weren’t as good as they are. We just had a couple of tough weekends. That’s just the way it is. Everybody stepped up their riding. I’d like to think that I push the pace in Florida. But, Bruno, Lampe, Santi… the list goes on and on. The big bike class is tough. So, I’m super stoked to get this win just because of how tough it was. We’re having to step up the pace. These guys were fighting and I had to earn it and that’s the kind of race you like to win.” He went on to thank his wife, Dunlop, Nick Vetrano, West Side Performance, Leo Vince, KWS, and Pilot Leathers.
