Dwyer Wins Shootout, Silva Crowned #1

CCS Florida – Homestead-Miami Speedway

December 8, 2013

By Lisa Theobald

Sean Dwyer won the Unlimited Grand Prix race at Homestead-Miami Speedway during CCS Florida’s final race of the season after his friends got together to rebuild his bike following Dwyer’s crash out of the lead during the Unlimited Superbike race, just a few races earlier.

“I just ran out of talent on that deal,” Dwyer commented on his crash. “I was sliding across the ground on my butt, and I’m looking at the bike and every time it would hit I would go, ‘Ooh don’t do that.’ I knew they were going to have to fix it. It was twisted up, subframe and everything.” Dwyer nabbed the holeshot, put his head down, and led the race from start to finish. Stefano Mesa was on his tail all six laps, closing in, but not finding away around the leader. Behind the leaders, Javier Del Amor had worked his way from a third row starting position up to third place. By lap two, he had passed Bruno Silva, Felipe MacLean, and Rodolfo Ramirez, settling into his position in the chase. Dwyer was able to hold his position for all six laps, and take his third victory in the Unlimited Grand Prix class this season. “This whole race is for all my friends,” Dwyer stated, on the podium. “This one is unbelievable. I gave up three times. I was like, ‘Nah man, the forks are bent. Nah man, the wheels are trashed. Nah man, this is bent.’ And, they don’t give up. We tore apart Sunny’s bike. Stole a right fork, we got a gas fork on the left, a traditional fork on the right. Looks like something off of Dukes of Hazard. We don’t care.”

“There are lots of fast guys here,” he continued. “When these guys come here to ride I want to ride my best and I don’t want to be sitting here watching them ride. And, as twisted as this thing was, it had unbelievable grip because we had the most bad ass tire from Dunlop. They brought us a tire that was unbelievable. We had the most ridiculous grip I’ve had around this track. If you’re not on the US Dunlops you’re gonna get beat by them, so get on them.” Dwyer also won the first race of the day, GTO. “It was a great race,” exclaimed Mesa. “I gave it my all since the beginning. Dwyer was just riding his heart out. He was riding amazing. I was just trying to keep up with him, but I couldn’t.”

Mesa was the winningest Expert of the day with five first-place finishes. He won the Unlimited Supersport, Middleweight Supersport, Middleweight Superbike, Middleweight Grand Prix, and GTU classes. Del Amor stated that, “I know I can go a little bit faster. I need to learn a little bit more about the bike and track, since it’s his first time here. I’m very happy to be here.” Earlier in the day, he won the Unlimited Superbike race and finished fifth in GTO. Amateur Clint Russell was the winningest racer of the day with a whopping eight victories. He was also awarded the title of Amateur Overall Points winner for the season. Bruno Silva and Rodolfo Ramirez went head-to-head in the Florida region’s final round, each entering 15 classes in an effort to edge out the other for the Expert Overall Points title. And, it was a battle to the finish, with Silva pulling out 37 points ahead to win the #1 plate for the 2014 race season. The 2014 CCS Florida season will open again in February, 2014, at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
